For me it's not a prn but I take seroquel every night to fall asleep, a small dose of 25mg does the trick. I also find marijuana helps but I don't recommend that necessarily because different people will react to it differently - sometimes for the worse. But for me personally those two things help.

I have a hard time
With sleep and half the time sleep meds don't work. Melatonin no longer helps even at 10mg

Seroquel seems to be most helpful for me.

UnfortunaUnfortunately Tomazapam will eventualy stop working. Benzodiazepines are wonderful...until they're not!

I've been taking temazepam for several years and it still works for me.

Benzo's work fine if you don't abuse them and take them as directed or less. Temazepam hasn't stopped working for me either.

temazepam does work. i don't know if its the best idea long term, but...yeah. very effective.
gabapentin helps me, sometimes. i very rarely take it. when I do, its 300-600mgs, then I'm out. Sleep quality is decent. Sometimes I feel a bit "off" in the morning, but...whatever. Beats going without sleep. hydroxyzine works for some people. the 'z' drugs...ambien, sonata, lunesta...are popular. i seem to recall reading that low(ish) doses of thorazine are used for some cases of insomnia. Its sedation, plus...the thorazine reduces agitation and such, in addition to the sedative effect. other than that, i dunno. any benzodiazepine can get the job done, as long as the dose is high enough. your ativan could work, if you have enough to spare. |

Seroquel works great for me, my doctor wanted to try something else but when I came off it I was only sleeping a few hours a night and it took me hours to fall asleep so the doctor in the hospital restarted it. I fall asleep usually within an hour of taking it. It's great and not addictive or anything like that.

Short term I have been on Risperidone, Melatonin and then Ambien. Except Risperidone, I was given only 15 per month, so I was supposed to find sleep without meds at least half of the days. Same with Xanax, only 15 per month. With both Ambien and Xanax, I could manage with half the prescribed doze, the Docs plan on allowing only half the days to use those meds found to be not working. I have been honest on that shenanigan.
When we came to accept that I couldn't easily get back on a normal sleeping pattern, I was put on Remeron long term. And in addition to sleep, I experienced a whole new level of dreaming while on Remeron. After all those, now I'm feeling somewhat jittery in the morning, that I find it hard to keep my hand steady. I think it is some soft of dyskinesia, and worried if this would get worse or even subside.. |

Now actually back on Ambien. I have been full circle, and on the same meds I was on 2~3 years ago. And glad that they still work for me.

I'm glad they're working well for you. I'm simply relating my personal experience with them, and I say again: be careful, because they have the potential to actually make things worse in the long run. Not for everyone, but the risk is real.
