My husband and I will be leaving for Thailand on Monday, and my Meds are all wrong.
I was making a switch from seroquel to saphris, over the past 2 weeks. Works great for depression, but I've gained 8 pounds, and I'm irritable and a little hyper. I can tell that it won't replace seroquel for paranoia. I'm still taking 200mg of seroquel and I'm now on 10 mg of Saphris. I'd like to go back up to my usual 300 dose of seroquel, and at least go down to 5 mg of the saphris tonight. I don't want to wait another day, to talk to my doctor. Any thoughts? I was on adderal before and that worked great for depression too, and it made me lose weight, but that, too, made me irritable. I know I need to get on something else to replace, for depression. What might be a safe anti depressant/anti anxiety med to get on last minute .....where Id know it's affect on me within a couple of days. I don't want to find myself crying on vacation, unable to get out of bed, or being irritable. I take klonopin already, and Wellbutrin makes me paranoid. I hope someone out there might have some advice. Thanks. |

Eek, I'm sorry you're going through that. I would suggest talking to your doctor if at all possible, because, not to add more stress to your situation, but sometimes going off of meds too quickly can cause huge trouble, too. I'm surprised the saphris caused more trouble with weight gain than the seroquel. I'd say you could search a little online to see if that tends to be a side effect that stops for others, but if it won't help the paranoia and you don't think it's a great fit anyway, maybe not. If I can ask, what's your diagnosis?
As far as antidepressants, amoxapine is an older med that I've read is supposed to kick in within 2 weeks for people it works for. I'm actually planning on asking my doctor about it at my next appointment, although I'm wary because I feel like if it's that great it'd be more commonly used. If sedating meds like seroquel work for you, have you ever been on remeron? It's known for causing weight gain, too, but it's still different for everyone and maybe it wouldn't be as bad as the saphris. Hydroxyzine is used for anxiety as needed and is supposed to be like a non-addictive benzo, and it wasn't great for me but I've heard good things about it from some people. If the adderal seemed to be a good fit in some ways, have you ever talked to your doctor about taking ritalin, dexedrine, or another stimulant? Maybe even vyvanse or another longer lasting version of a stim, since it might help with the irritability by avoiding crashes. Even though it'd be quick acting on the depression I'm not sure that'd be a good choice to start now, since it still might make you irritable and might worsen paranoia, but it might be worth trying at another time. (Going to add the obvious note that I'm not a doctor and these are just ideas to ask your doc about. ![]() Good luck with everything, hope you find something that works out! |

Thank you.
I was surprised about the saphris, too. I think since I haven't been on it long, and I never got off the seroquel, im going to go off of it tonight. I left a message with my doctor, so hopefully I will hear back in the morning. He had mentioned vyvanse in the past, so maybe he will put me on that. I looked up the amoxapine - I hadn't heard of it. I will just have to see what he says, I guess. I have to avoid anything that could cause weight gain. My diagnosis is schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type. Symptoms of apathy are really hard to treat, but the stimulant medications help, with that and depression. Thank you so much for responding, and for all of your input! |
