As with many of the so-called atypical antipsychotic mood stabilizers, quetiapine (Seroquel) cause carbohydrate cravings. It has been my experience that these cravings start to diminish in about 9 to 12 months. I know that that is not a great time frame, but it does mean that there is an end in sight. Until then you have to keep carbohydrates to a minimum in your abode.
Medications are not very effective in curbing the craving and will power, although not a great treatment, does work if you work at it. when the cravings are bad eat things like celery, blueberries, and carrots. Filling your stomach with low calorie foods will take the edge off of the cravings. - Cam |
