I've been off antidepressants for 5-6 months. Over the summer and up till now, I've been very depressed. I wanted to get healthy just the natural way, but I talked to my psychiatrist and I'm going back on Prozac. It was what I took before viibryd, and it worked well I think. I feel relieved, because I do think that medication can help. I can still take action to feel better naturally, as well as being on Prozac.

I Am kind of concerned I'm going to gain weight. I lost weight. But a lot of it was bc of depression. But I can always...find something else to take down the line, or be on my feet more and exercise. Also, if I do gain weight, I will know its Prozac that causes it in me. I'll at least know.

I mostly feel good about going back on it. I'm relieved.

Thanks for this!

Prozac, like all SSRIs, always made me feel sick and had no appetite so it can actually cause weight loss not gain. The one that causes weight gain for me is Mirtazipine, I was on that and gained loads and have lost loads again now I'm off it (just can't sleep anymore either)

Hmm...I guess I will have to see. I have gained weight twice on Prozac. Once when in an unhappy relationship. Once when I quit my job and sat around for 3 years. Maybe if I am active, I will be ok. I'm pretty active. I will have to see. And I see my doctor in a month so I will bring it up to her too.

Glad that you are back on track. Good luck with it.
Perhaps the weight gain will not be a huge issue (if anything)

Fingers crossed!

Thanks everyone. Today is the first day I took it, and I've been ok mood-wise, but also INCREDIBLY anxious, because I thought of something. I experienced a trauma last Fall, when I was on prozac. Someone hurt me emotionally. The fact that this time of year is coming up again, and the fact that I'm taking prozac again, I'm wondering, will it (taking prozac) bring up bad feelings about this person? I've already been thinking about him. I'm worried. Do I have anything to be worried about?

A pdoc once told me that sometimes we stuff emotions or memories until a time when we feel "safe" enough to work through them. Maybe being on meds will have you stable enough to process those feelings and let them go?

Increased anxiety is very common when starting (or re-starting) antidepressants. If that's all it is it shouldn't last more than a few days to a week or so.
*Very common (10% or more): Insomnia (up to 33%), anxiety (up to 15%), nervousness (up to 14%)*
*Very common (10% or more): Anorexia (up to 17%)
Common (1% to 10%): Decreased appetite, weight loss*
