Probably a good idea to ask the pharmacist just to be sure.

I've taken cold meds with my psych meds and was ok. If you do......Please, just be sure that you do NOT take more than the recommended dose on the box.

Best person to ask is your pharmacist.

I know I can't take any over the counter cold remedies due to negative interaction with my meds. It's a real drag.

I had a cold once so I asked my pharmacist about a certain cold medicine. He said it was fine for me to take it.

My pharmacist was really helpful in finding cold and allergy remedies that won't affect my medications. I won't say which ones a they may not be the best for you. I reiterate the point everyone else is making that you talk to your own pharmacist - and make sure it is the pharmacy you regularly deal with as they will have on file the medications you already take and their dosages.

More of the same.... ask the pharmacist and I don't mean then sales person either. The pharmacist I asked if I could taken something for a cold and he said no because of the type of meds I was on and the possible interactions. Best I could do was take paracetemol for the headaches.

Perhaps if the cold medicine contains ingredients that contribute to drowsiness. (some antipsychotics cause drowsiness)

That is the only case I can think of, but ask the doctor/pharmacist.

It depends on what meds you're taking and the ingredients of the cold medication. Diphenhydramine can be a big no-no. Ask your pharmacist ~ she/he'll probably know more about the interactions than your pdoc.

I take diphenhydramine (Benedryl) when I need to. And Sudafed. No problem. ALL the medicines I take, even occasionally are listed on my med sheet. I've never had any doctor be concerned about interaction with any of the AP's I've taken. But I do have a bone to pick. You seem to be implying that the flu shot had something to do with your cold. It's a dead virus. Sorry if I misunderstood.

Diphenhydramine is a CNS/respiratory depressant as are Effexor, Lexapro, Celexa, Wellbutrin, Paxil, Prozac, Abilify, Seroquel, Geodon, etc. etc.
Great if you have no interaction, not great if you do.

My dad said cold medicine was bad with psych meds, but I've had no issues with it.

It's not a cold medicine, but I've heard you can't take zzquil with a anti histamine. So if you take something for anxiety like visteral, it's a drug interaction.
