I have taken Wellbutrin for a few years now, and I never really thought about it, so not sure if it is from the wellbutrin, but I have for the past couple years I have, from what I have noticed, been increasingly nauseous and fainting. Is it possible to experience side effects from medication later on or are they instantly developed once you begin treatment? I just need to know in order to either go to my psychiatrist about it or my regular doctor. My regular doctor would not know as much about the side effects if this is the case.

Your question is a good one. I have often wondered the same thing, but I don't know the answer. My guess is that most pdocs would say 'No', but I don't think they necessarily know.

That's a tough call. It's possible that you have new side effects from Wellbutrin. It's hard on the liver.
You probably need to see your regular physician first because you need blood tests and a regular physical exam to make sure your ok in general.

Ohhh...yeah, if you're on a med (like lithium) that can cause toxicity you can definitely have symptoms. But that wouldn't be side-effects, that would be signs of toxicity.
Serotonin syndrome would be another one that could show toxic effects. |

There are long term side effects from meds. That manifest later on, when using them. I know one from experience. It was lexapro and after a few yrs, it seemed to cause what my pdoc calls frontal lobe apathy. In other words it stopped working and caused issues with motivation and my depressive episodes returned with out any substantive issues in my life. That should/ could have caused it. Many psych. meds are relatively new compared to others medications used for other medical conditions over the yrs. Which is why many docs/pdocs are careful to prescribe the next psych. med rolling out of big pharmas. No one knows the long term effects. Especially, when they affect certain monoamine receptors/ sub-receptors that have not been targeted or influenced before by other meds Some links to longterm side effects of various meds- The Most Dangerous Psychiatric Drugs: Highest Risk Medications Frontal Lobe Syndromes Clinical Presentation: History, Physical, Causes Obviously a lot plays into how one will react physiologically over time to all medications. Those include lifestyle, other meds, genetics, each individuals system. Talk to your pdoc and health care providers whenever you feel that something is awry!
