Has anyone tried propranolol (Inderal) for anxiety? How well did it work?

I tried I think 40mg once when I couldn't breathe well when starting the Abilify injection 3 years ago because my muscles tensed up. I was also on Klonopin and Ativan.

It's a beta blocker so it blocks some of the chemicals from the adrenal glands such as adrenaline which is why people use it for anxiety.

I'm thinking of asking my doctor for propranolol to slow my heart down before I start exercising because after exercising today, my heart is beating even faster :/

I don't take stimulants anymore but I have sinus tachycardia from abusing them.

I use it for anxiety, I love it. Works far better than any benzo ever did. Your right it works on the physical symptoms of anxiety.

I take both Propanolol and Xanax for anxiety. Both help. Propanolol seems to work better for my social anxiety and also helps my panic attacks. Xanax also helps my panic attacks but is better for my free floating anxiety. I get lightheaded from the Propanalol sometimes but drug interaction checkers seem to think this is likely due to Xanax and Geodon I take mixing with the Propanolol which can cause a further drop in blood pressure.

I take it prn for anxiety. I find it helps the heart palpitations a lot, but only mildly affects my other symptoms.

Propanolol helped ease my anxiety a little bit for the first few months I was on it. After that, it didn't do much. But I have really stubborn anxiety, it seems. Many people are helped by propanolol.

I use it for the physical symptoms of anxiety.

I tried going off it 1.5 years ago And my heart was pounding so fast and my pulse was 130. I got back on it pretty quickly.

I have taken propranolol on occasion in the past and I currently take it as needed now. This morning I woke up really stressed out with horrible heart palpitations. It stops them right away without the drowsiness/loopiness of Xanax. I find it to be a safer alternative to Xanax. When I take Xanax I can’t drive.

Yes- I did use it for anxiety for a brief time after trying a few other options. I did find it effective. Especially the panic symptoms (heart palpitations, sweating...)

hi. i tried it briefly, mostly to help w/ adverse effects from an 'atypical' tranquilizer. it was OK. i seem to recall better results when combined with a benzodiazepine, but again...some of my problems at that point were from a tranquilizer.
