Dose abilify control your mania at all or just it just act as an antidepressant?

hi. from what I understand, the data is actually better for abilify as long-term treatment for psychotic disorders and as an anti-manic than as an antidepressant.

for me, personally, 20mgs abilify keeps me lucid, stable, etc., w/o eps, td, too much cognitive impairment, dysphoria, etc. my own experience is that abilify definitely keeps agitation and such at bay, and it "takes the edge off" the low points.

It seems Abilify is a multi-purpose med.

I take a low dose, 6 mg., to help with depression. My pdoc explains that low-dose Abilify can "boost" other antidepressants. I'm also on Celexa, Wellbutrin and Adderall. I definitely feel a bit of a boost with the low-dose Abilify.

My pdoc told me it both stabilizes and enhances dopamine, so it can stabilize mood for bipolar disorder and is especially helpful for those who are more on the depressive side of things. It's also used for people suffering from unipolar depression. IN addition to both of those uses it's an anti-psychotic.
