I am researching on both these benzodiazepines as I am deciding which better suits my needs.
For the occasional peaks of anxiety I have (particularly related to going out) I currently have 0.5 mg Xanax. I am testing it out and seeing how I fair on it. On the other hand, I have used Rivotril (Klonopin equivalent) in the past and found it reasonably helpful. This is what I heard from my doc: - Xanax has a quicker onset than Rivotril - Rivotril has a more sedating effect than Xanax What else do you all have to say about either or both of these medications? Experiences? Also, I have used Ativan before when I had panic problems. The onset of Ativan is obviously the quickest of the three I have mentioned. From what I have found online: ( # in milligrams) 1 Ativan = 0.5 Xanax = 0.5 Rivotril Any feedback is appreciated. __________________ Tic-Tac |

I was on a high dose of Klonopin for a good while and have weaned myself down to one Xanax a day. I think Xanax is the way to go.

If it is just for as needed use, Xanax, but why not Ativan if it worked for you in the past?

My doctor believes that Ativan is more suited for 'emergency' situations. So for example, when one gets a panic attack. I have not had one in a while (touch wood) so I am therefore not being prescribed it.

hi. klonopin takes longer to work and lasts a long time. over the long haul, drug induced depression is more of a problem with klonopin. back in the day, high doses of xanax were used to treat some forms of depression, and to boost other treatments in depression in other people.
here in the us, we have a xanax xr or er or...i dunno. i think its one pill in the morning, and its supposed to provide all day coverage. i would think that there'd be a problem with inter-dose anxiety if one was taking it daily, every day, but...maybe not (?). i personally preferred ativan to xanax. i needed a bit more ativan than xanax to get the results, but i could actually function better w/ the ativan than the xanax. tapering klonopin proved to be hell on earth for me, personally, but...i didn't have the best shrink, and other people dont have that problem. if a benzodiazepine is going to be a daily part of your life...is valium/diazepam an option? its not very popular here in the us, but...its easier to taper than many other benzodiazepines, and it comes in a wide variety of pill sizes, plus i think there's a liquid. hope this helps. |

Both Xanax and Ativan is used for this. So if you want something similar to Ativan, Xanax might be a good choice. At least for me they work almost the same. Strange though doc allows Xanax.

On panic attacks I use 0.5 mg oral xanax and 0.5 mg sublingual together and I start feeling okay fast .
Xanax works fine for me |

Both are very addictive though and ideally should not be used long term. (I used to abuse Rivotril and even now sometimes feel tempted)
I'd rather go the Ativan route and take it prn __________________ "I'd rather attempt to do something great and fail than to attempt to do nothing and succeed. Robert H. I take an XR xanax (2mg) each morning, and I have found that has helped best for my general anxiety. I have yet to find a pill that helps with panic attacks (I have tried klonopin, xanax, and ativan). Klonopin was very dangerous for me, it majorly affected my memory.
