I have been on 20mg Prozac for 2 weeks for anxiety and am not seeing any improvement yet.. how long does it usually take? Are there ever occasions were it might not be effective?

Thank you.

According to my psychiatrist this is Paxil but would be any SSRI it takes 6 to 8 weeks to fully feel the effects I truly feel you. I'm on Paxil and of course I'm on week 3 and I'm not feeling any difference yet unfortunately your body has to get used to the medicine and it's frustrating believe me you want to work asap but that's not how medicine works sadly. Do not discontinue it and keep working with it Hopefully it'll work for us hang in there

It took me for 5-6 weeks before I noticed anything from Prozac, and even then it was mild (I would definitely say it was during month 2 that I was certain it was working).

Also, although we all are different, it's worth noting that I was more anxious than before during my second and third weeks on it. Hope this helps!

4-6 weeks is usually the standard answer. YMMV

Thanks for the information

Right now I’m just feeling increased anxiety but I didn’t realise this would continue on in my second week? Is this normal also?

The first time I took it, it didn’t work.

The second time, which was about a year ago I only took one dose. I ate a ton of food then went to McDonald’s immediately after that. I knew I’d gain weight from it so I immediately stopped it. I’m terrified of gaining weight.

I mentioned it to my physician and she said “yeah you definitely don’t want to be on Prozac if you don’t want to gain weight.”

My psych was pretty frustrated and pissed at me. I trusted my physician more then him.
