I have an appointment with my doctor to discuss going on an SSRI, possibly Lexapro. Does anyone have any experience with this one? I have nothing against using meds, but I'm a newbie to all this and I've never taken one before. I'm a bit nervous.

Are the side effects severe? Depending on my job, that may not work.

And how long before you started noticing anything, good or bad? I know most mental health meds aren't effective immediately.

its pretty mild for me when it comes to the side effects. its been 2 months since ive been on it, no major difference in my anxiety, just subtle relief. depression is getting better though.

The first time I took Lexapro I felt positive effects within 4 days. Side effects weren't terrible; with the SSRI's I notice that my energy level is lower...I tire easily.

I think it's good that you're going on Lexapro. I hope it's helpful for you.

I was taking a high dose of lexalpro and ended up hospitalized from depression. But I know a lot of people that it works well for.

I take lexapro and like it. It is helping me. It really depends on the person though, everyone is different. If lexapro doesn't work, maybe try a different one. I hope it helps though.
Thanks for this!

10 mg worked well for me the first time...main side-effect was weight gain. Discontinued it after 6 months of positive results. The second time, it induced anxiety and panic, so I stopped taking it. Best of luck

I've been on it for three weeks and it has already helped me so much. The first week was a bit scary, I was dizzy, not in my body and had v strong self harm thoughts but then the clouds kind of parted and things are way better.
Still tired, but hey! an improvement.
Thanks for this!

It was good for me; at the least the equivalent here in Canada (Cipralex). I was on it for years, but then I went off of it due to family not wanting me on it anymore, and then went into severe depression. I tried to go back on it, and it didn't do anything anymore. My pdoc did help me get off of this if you were worried in some way. So it was good until I went off of it.
