Usually the sedating AP's and benzos do this to me. This is both good and bad. Sometimes I am just feel so crazy, want to just start throwing things or do something bad to myself, and I do anything to just feel "nothing." Sometimes I'll do anything to feel that way. On the other hand, it isn't always healthy to be that way.

What meds have you found to numb your emotions?

Since I have been on Seroquel, I have been so numb it's unreal. I have totally lost my connection with my spirituality and it really bothers me.

But, since I am on such a low dosage, I still have bursts of mania here and there and I sometimes do FEEL but not as much as I used to.

I guess its just the trade-off for keeping me under control.

I felt numb when I was on higher doses of anti-depressants. I currently take Lamictal, Geodon, Xanax, and Inderal and I don't feel numb often anymore.

I relate completely. I am on a middle of the road dose (400) used to be on higher. I think I need it to function at this point.

Antidepressants induced mania. Lamictal has been good. Xanax makes me social for the first hour, unless I take too much of it. My pdoc won't prescribe it for me anymore, but it's ok.

At times anti-depressants caused mania for me too. It's interesting how I have felt both manic and numb on anti-depressants.

high dose ssri drugs were the worst. i have obsessive traits, so higher doses are supposedly "more effective." Ummm...ok. numb, apathetic, and mood instability. thanks, zoloft.

i have to watch it w/ the abilify. im at 20 now, which is higher than id like, but its not as bad as 30 was (For me). I have more "emotional range," plus there's less sedation w/ abilify than many other options. risperidone was far more numbing....maybe that's why they used it on me in a hospital?

trileptal is somewhat numbing, and that depends on dosage, too. i think pretty much any psych drug is somewhat numbing, even the stimulants. ritalin and then amphetamines helped take the edge off depression and help w/ concentration, but there was still -stuff- i just didn't have to deal with, as long as I was stimulated.

interesting thread.

Risperdal does it's job at keeping my moods stable .. but it's almost too good of a job. I'm completely numb on it .. among other issues I'm having with it, mainly a weird side effect. Anti-Depressant's make me manic if I'm on them alone so I take them with other meds. Idk it's a difficult situation, I have to choose between being numb and dealing with no emotions. Don't know which one to pick.

Seroquel turned me into a zombie. Zyprexa also numbs my emotions. As far as I can tell rexulti has no effect on me but on the other hand I haven't had delusions since i started it. Lithium also numbed me but I could never take a sufficiently high dose and went manic on it anyway.

Abilify numbed the worst of the suicidal feelings for me. It seemed to numb all of my feelings to some extent.

Clozaril made me sleep for 12 hours at a time, my weight ballooned and I starting having involuntary movement problems. Not only that but during the day I would sit doing nothing and my hands would shake. Scary med glad I’m no longer on it.

Saphris when it wasn't reacting to medications. I went from being so angry that I was about to have a violent meltdown to... Nothing. Pretty numb.

I am already on Seroquel and we've been talking about adding Lithium. Although I've had times where I've felt too numb on medication, lately I actually need something to flatten out my moods a little more. For a little while, I attempted to lower my Seroquel dose for side effects reasons. However, it was really de-stabilizing, so my pdoc increased it again. I can still use a little more help to level me out, so maybe Lithium will do it for me.
I really do hope it won't flatten my moods too much though to the point where it has that zombie effect, but right now I am kind of desperate for relief.

Edit: sorry I forgot to quote both your reply and Guinness's comment leading up to that.

Did Saphris have any physical side effects for you? My pdoc never brought up Saphris, but I have wondered if it is something that would help me.
