So, long story short, my mom "thinks" I'm depressed. She wants to go and get medication for me but I'm terrified of weight gain. If I do get medication I'm most likely going to refuse them.
Are there any medications that don't have weight gain associated with them?

Wellbutrin is considered to be weight neutral. That's what I take. I also hope you'll talk to a therapist, too. Do you not think you're depressed?

Antidepressants have to be prescribed. I don't think your mother can just run out and get some, unless she pretends to be the who is depressed. I hope you can stay off of them by talking to a professional first. I know you're not yet 18, but I hope she listens. Tell her to talk to someone in the know about the goods and bads of antidepressants. To me they are only needed when counseling by itself is not helping.

Have you taken the quiz to see if you're depressed? I'll see if I can find it and post it here.

I know that there's something wrong with me, depression is most likely what it is. Just don't really want medication for it.

See my previous post which I posted while you just sent your second one. I'll look for that "quiz" I mentioned.

Does your mom take an antidepressant?

Your mom is not a professional, so we can't be sure her diagnosis of you is correct. All the more reason to talk to a therapist or psychiatrist.

Okay, here's some quizzes you might take: https://depression.org.nz/is-it-depr...ety/self-test/

Medication alone is not a miracle maker. It takes 4-6 weeks for it to work. You might talk to your mom about doing therapy which can be an effective choice if you work at it.

Welbutrin is weight neutral but can cause anxiety and panic attacks. Some people can get aggressive on it also.

First you need a mental health professional to help you determine if an anti-depressant is right for you. If it in fact is, then look at options. Topomax is a mood stabilizer, it may help depression and is known to cause weight loss. It does have some other side effects though that may not be so nice; it made me a little dopey.

Yeah, you definitely need to be seen by a mental health professional. Get a diagnosis and talk over options.

I'll tell you one thing. Being then and depressed is a sh it way to live...I was there for many years and as much as I hate weight gain, it's better than depression. I'm very serious.

There are heaps of weight neutral anti depressants that don't have weight gain as aside effect. I am curious as to what anti depressant your mom thinks she can get for you? As others have said you need to go to a doctor or psychiatrist to be assessed. Then move forward from that point. There may be natural anti depressants out there like St Johns Wort but just because they are natural doesn't mean they don't have side effects.

Whatever is happening may have a physical cause. That's why it's best to see a medical professional first.
