I'm afraid none of them have no long term effects.
Amitriptyline can be a good long term one for sleep. It caused heart arrhythmias for me, so I had to quit taking it. I take Ambien but want to quit. Klonopin is one that may be ok until i quit sleeping pills altoghether. |

Quetiapine and melatonin helps a bit. But a weighted blanket made a huge improvement in my sleep.

As Guiness187055 said, trazodone (Desyrel™) is fairly safe when used as a sedative. There is a slight drug-drug interaction when taken with mirtazapine (Remeron™). At low doses (25mg to 100mg) there should be no problem taking the two medications together, depending on your current dose of mirtazapine.
The side effects from the interaction between trazodone and mirtazapine is something called serotonin syndrome, which means that you have too much serotonin in your system. Serotonin syndrome manifests as trembling (esp. hands), restlessness, rapid heart rate, dilated pupil, and diarrhea. The most common side effect of SS is profuse sweating, and is the one usually noticed first. Talk to your doctor to see if trazodone is right for you. - Cam |

I find Quetiapine to be habit forming, however I'm scared of not sleeping so maybe anything can become habit forming. I've had no side effects though so nothing bad to say about it. I agree with the melatonin and weighted blanket. Also taking the Quetiapine earlier, laying down before it kicks in, and shutting off devices.

Once I'm in for the night, I take melatonin, Valerian root and magnesium. (Plus I take amitriptyline.)

Can you set an alarm so you remember to take your mirtazapine and seroquel earlier in the evening, so the sedation from those meds kick in at the right time?
