Yeah, chalm, it's on my never-ending list of meds I've taken.

It made me totally sick. Naseaus, vomiting & extremely drowsy. I couldn't tolerate it so I got the heck off of it.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. However, you might benefit from it & not have the same bad side effects that I had.

Hugs & good luck, girl.

When I took it it knocked me out every night and then when I got up in the morning I was very tired and grumpy. At one point I almost ran my truck off the road from being so tired.

Hi dragon.

Two days for me so far. It doesnt quite knock me out. Takes awhile for it to kick in and make me tired. But waking up is horrible. Im very tired and grumpy too. I'm hoping this wears off.

Thanks for responding

Chalmette,

I have to take mine several hours before I want to sleep, usually around 7. It usually helps me sleep, but I have a hard time waking up. I only take 50 mg though.

Hope it brings you sweet dreams.

HI onyx,

I'm trying to get use to this med. So far its kinda crappy. If i would let myself, i'd be sleeping all 24 hours of the day. When i am awake, i feel like im in a cloud. And my appetite has gone from nil to wanting to feed myself every waking moment. Thats the two bad things about it.

Good thing is, my nightmares are less frequent. And i am getting sleep finally.

Im so tired all of the time, that i cant get a grip on my feelings.

So i guess in some ways its good and some ways not. But this is the first med ive taken that i honestly feel a change in myself. Saturday will be one week that im taking it.

I've never taken ami', but I've taken nortriptyline, which is a relative. Worked gret for depression. The only side effect I had was dry mouth. Hopefully the side effects will subside for you after a while longer.

Good luck!

Hi Chalmette70043, I did, though it was 25 yrs ago.
Some of the first few weeks on it did not prepare me for
most awful period I have been through. My problem wasn't
directly due to the amitriptyline because the depression
I'd gone into was not the underlying issue but only a
piece of what my psychiatrist had putatively told me was
the reason and his summation didn't warrant such a drastic
step as was taken. Thus here am I. Gone but not forgotten.
Please take care, thanks. DB

Ive been on it now a couple weeks. This med seems to be helping the depression lift a little bit. But doing nothing for the anxiety, flashbacks seem to be more frequent. I still have constant dry mouth and fight to wake up from sleeping. And wanting to eat everything in sight. I dont go back to the pdoc till the end of the month. I'm gonna give it a few more weeks and see if the anxiety gets better. If not im getting of this.

Thank you all for responding with your experiences,
chalmette

maybe another tca like despiramine would be better, supposed to be less sedating with less weight gain also.
I took/take elevil for nausea sometimes, works good for me that way but wow the sedation is hard. Am going to ask if despiramine would help nausea also.
