Hi!
Any input would be greatly appreciated. My psychiatrist put me on 40 mgs of Vyvanse to help with my binge eating and accompanying rapid weight gain. For around 2 months, the Vyvanse worked like a miracle. My appetite decreased, I was eating a healthy amount of food everyday, and I was actually losing a bit of weight. However, a few weeks ago, my appetite started increasing again. Now, my appetite is out of control and even worse than it was before the Vyvanse. I've been binging again. I originally thought the increase in appetite was caused by changes in some of my other supplements. When I started taking the Vyvanse, I was taking an omega-3 fatty acid supplement, Moonburn by Belive (a melatonin supplement with Garcinia Cambogia and other appetite suppressant ingredients), and a multivitamin by Integrative Therapeutics (Clinical Nutrients for Women). Eventually, I ran out of the melatonin supplement and Integrative Therapeutics vitamins. I bought a new multivitamin called Opti-women which is also supposed to suppress appetite. I have not started taking the melatonin supplement again. I was comparing the ingredients in the vitamins and they have the same basic vitamin ingredients but very different ingredients for appetite suppressing. I am not sure what is causing this extreme appetite increase. I am having the Vyvanse increased (I am not sure to what dosage yet because I haven't picked up the medication scripts), but I am extremely worried that it won't work, or that it will work and stop working in another 2 months. This medication was a lifesaver for me. I have really low self-esteem because of my weight (I am considered obese). I was not put on Vyvanse for weight loss but the decrease in appetite really helped me on my weight loss journey, so I am devastated. So my questions are: 1. Does vyvanse eventually stop working for binge eating disorder? 2. What can a person do when it stops working? 3. Is there another better medication? 4. Are the other supplements I am taking interacting with the vyvanse to make it non-effective? (Again, I am taking an omega-3 fatty acid supplement (Nature Made Fish Oil 1,000 mg with 300mg of omega-3 fatty acids), the Optimum Nutrition's Opti-women multi-vitamin, and a vitamin D3 supplement (Smartervitamins 5,000 IU.) I am also on 300 mgs of Wellbutrin XL and Viibryd 20mg. I was on Viibryd 40 but I cut it down this week to try to decrease my appetite since I gained 20 pounds after starting Viibryd over the summer. Thanks! |

hi. amphetamine's effect on appetite is relatively short lived. that's one reason why widespread stimulant prescribing for weight loss caused so many problems. these days, when stimulants (diet pills, vyvanse, adderall, etc.) are used as diet aids, they're supposed to be used alongside other forms of treatment, and the official recommendation is to taper after short-term use.
having said that, you're not maxed out on vyvanse. im not your doctor or anything, but if you doctor is OK with it, you could possibly try a higher dosage, assuming you tolerate amphetamines OK. just...do be careful; amphetamine-induced euphoria, agitation, even straight up psychosis do happen to people on prescribed stimulants. hope this helps. |
