What are your experiences with Effexor for anxiety? Recently my dose got raised from 75 to 150mg. And i wonder, if higher doses won't fuel anxiety due to noradrenaline effect

I don't really know anything about this. But I noticed no one had yet replied to your post. So I thought I would. I was on Effexor twice. And it actually made me suicidal. I can't take it. So just based on my own personal experience I'd have to say, at least for me, Effexor would probably be unlikely to fuel my anxiety. It would be more likely to make me even more despondent than I already am. But of course, as we all know, different people react differently to different medications. So it may be that the best you can do is to monitor your reaction to your increased dosage & keep in touch with your prescriber. Perhaps other PC members will yet have other perspectives they can share. Best wishes...

Anti-depressants for anxiety usually need to be at higher does than for depression so you can reach the 'anxiolytic' (suppressing anxiety) effects.
It is advised that you stay on the maximum dose for at least 13 weeks to properly stabalise, and from there you can see if it starts to help. It's a long process going on and off meds, trying different ones etc. But when you find the right one, you'll be happy you pushed through. |

Thank you for the answers. Effexor is SNRI, wouldnt be awkward response with higher doses? That it would stimulate and create more anxiety?

I've been on Effexor for decades, and am currently on 375 mg/day. It has never helped with my anxiety. I've always had to take a benzo along with it.

It has the potential to, yes, like any other SSRI/SNRI. But it's a matter of trial and error.
Personally, I took it for a few years, ranging in doses from 150mg - 300mg, with most of the time spent at 225mg. It offered the most help for my depression, but it did do something for my (social) anxiety too. If I had to put it into words, I guess, it felt like it took the edge off, but not much more. Eventually, I cross-tapered to 80mg of Cymbalta. |
