NP was talking about if I considered an antipsychotic again and I said "No, it's not worth the weight gain and extreme sedation. Also, I'm not having bothersome symptoms"
She said that if symptoms ever get out of hand there are other medicines. I didn't ask, but what exactly? Does anyone know? |

Weight gain isn't associated with all antipsychotics. In fact, abilify, rexulti, latuda, ect... have a low risk of weight gain. Sedation is common, but I have not experienced it on rexulti.
Other medicines would depend on what condition you're trying to treat. If it is a bipolar type disorder then there are mood stabilizers or a depressive type then there are atypical antidepressants like Wellbutrin.

Wish I knew what to tell you. I'm interested myself. A woman friend on Zyprexa went cold turkey off of it because she couldn't tolerate the side effects. One of them being parkinson and sore legs. IDK if those SEs are related.

I think they mean other antipsychotic medicines. There are quite a few that are less likely to have weight gain.
In terms of other forms to help your issue, eating healthy whole foods are important but many supplements can help. I say help, I’m not sure about meds free. Depends on your condition but you can google about supplements for mental illness. Julie Rucklidge is a good one to look up. Inositol is one that I take, it helps with depression but I don’t seem to find I can get off meds, it just helps. If your doc means something other than antipsychotics I’d also be interested in knowing ![]() |

I have taken atypical antipsychotics and not had too many side effects. Not all antipsychotics make everyone drowsy either, I take Geodon and do sleep a few extra hours a night but can function fine when I'm up.
