I have been wrongly treated for schizophrenia for 6 years. A diagnosis I did not have. After finishing antipsychotic medication, I still have much reduced sex drive. I have been locked up in a psychiatric hospital for 3 years. During the first year, I was treated with Haloperidol. In the coming years I was treated with trilaphone. I have since 2 months ended my medical treatment. The medicine I use now is dexamphetamine and zolpidem due to idiopathic hypersomnia.
This medicine I had even before anti-psychotic medication began. Then, dexamphetamine contributed to increased sex drive. Now nothing is changed by the amphetamine. Before I was treated by psychiatry, I have never had problems with sex drive. If it is the anti-psychotic medication that has made me lose almost all sexual desire and most of the ability, I wonder if it should not have returned after 2 months. Could the institutionalization and grief of having been subjected to psychiatric abuse for years be the cause of the problem. In the past, mood or mental status has never affected sexual desire to any significant extent, so it doesn't feel like it can solely be due to psychological phenomena, but it's probably somatic. Anyone with similar experiences? Any expert who has a clue? I was treated in Sweden... |

HI trilla. Welcome to Psych Central. I am sorry that you are finding challenges with the medications you are on the trauma you may have experienced.
There are many reasons for losing sex drive and I am not an expert for sure. But I did find this article that may point to some factors that may be of interest. How Does PTSD Affect Relationships?
