I've been on Anafranil for 6 weeks now and I LOVE its psychological effects. It's helped me with so much and I haven't felt this positive about life in about 20 years. It's the first med to really work, let alone work on such a wide variety of issues. I really don't want to give it up.
HOWEVER!! I'm having a serious problem with a particular side effect: Body temperature regulation issues. I am constantly hot and sweating. I'm keeping the thermostat at home 3 degrees colder than usual and I still sweat profusely unless a fan is pointed at me. Walking in stores, even the grocery store, is embarrassing because I'm constantly wiping the sweat off my face before the sweat hits and burns my eyes. Does anyone have any ideas or experience with this? |

Unfortunately those types of older meds have side effects. I know this sounds stupid but if this is your only side effect with this med, you are lucky.

I know I'm super lucky that the Anafranil worked -- I was warned that it's usually not prescribed often because it's so prone to causing side effects and since I'm particularly susceptible to medications' side effects, the psychiatrist didn't think it would work. But it did.
Surely the side effects can only last so long though? It's embarrassing to sweat so much when you're inside a store, turning beet red in the process. Worst of all was the heat stroke-like symptoms I experienced while doing laundry (the laundry room for my apartment is over a building and upstairs). It's made me super nervous about doing my laundry. :/ |

Only time will tell if this will balance out. Some stuff the body can fix by itself, but not everything.
