I think I spoke to soon. I think I am having Effexor withdrawals. I was feeling much better the last couple of days since starting Fetzima over a week ago. Then today I feel horrible all over. It is day two with no Effexor (75mg). I had never heard of Effexor withdrawal until a year ago. I had stopped paying attention and researching drugs some years ago because I was sick of doing it.
I have gone off of Effexor a number of times in the past and I don't remember any trouble. I have been on and off so many though it is all a big blur. I may have had withdrawal and didn't know it and just chalked it up to depression. I just took a 75mg and I think I will do so every other day for awhile. Maybe that will help. I only have capsules so I can't split in half. I was told that since I was taking another SNRI that I wouldn't have any withdrawal. So I am not sure what is going on but I feel horrible. Just when I was feeling better.....ain't it a *****.

I feel your pain! I came off my effexor back in October/November I think and I have no desire to repeat the experience. I stopped it pretty quickly really, I've read about some people who spread the reduction over several months.
I think I went from 150mg to 75mg for one or two weeks and then 37.5mg for another week before stopping altogether. I was advised to do the every other day thing but I decided I just wanted it over with. The first few days were the hardest for me but it definitely got easier. I was able to better manage the symptoms and still managed to function pretty ok. Hope it gets easier for you soon ![]() |

I know how you feel. I am sorry you are feeling so terrible. When I was going off of effexor I went off pretty quickly and I also could not split my capsules, like I said before it was like hell. It took me several weeks to feel normal again. Just try to stay strong.

Effexor withdrawal is terrible! It can start to develop hours after not taking the next dose and can take a long while to heal. Going from 75mg to nothing is too much of a jump. I feel your pain. Since you went onto another med, you should stabilize in a few weeks when your body adjusts. If you didn't take another med, I'd advise you to reinstate and taper slower, since you would probably only get worse.

its no use stopping and starting Effexor because you feel bad, you will just stay bad. 1 every other day is not the answer that to is wrong, cut a capsule in half , poor out the beads and half them that's not hard. But if like you say you have started another med now ,you cannot carry on with Effexor has well , you will be in big trouble.

I think you need to tell your doc you are going off Effexor and are having serious withdrawal symptoms. He probably has a solution for you.
Good luck!

My doc is the one that said I wouldn't have trouble because I was starting another SNRI. SewerRats I am not worried about taking both. I have always started the new one and tapered off the old one at the same time. That's how they do it in the states. I have done it many times. I could call my doc for 37.5 or as sewer says split the pellets in half. I think I will split the pellets.

Well I took a 75mg yesterday and split a capsule today so 37.5. The horrible feeling went away so I am thinking it was Effexor withdrawal.
Today I feel wired so Fetzima and effexor = to much noradrenaline. I can deal with that though.

Yeah I am going at my own pace regardless.
According to this article 5% experience serious withdrawal. I don't think I am in that 5%. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1681629/

One does not start a new SNRI and then taper off the previous. This is very dangerous. There is a thing called cross-taper, and your PDoc should make a cross-taper schedule for you.
