I have been given Lamictal to help with my mood swings from Bipolar. She started me out on 25mg for 2 weeks then upped the dose to 50mg for a month. I am now on 100mg once a day. At first, it seemed to help. I was in better moods, feeling pretty good. Since I have been on the 100mg, I feel like Im crashing. My moods have been very low. Feel like I dont matter anymore. I want to cry constantly. Suicidal thoughts are running rampant again. I dont see my doctor again until November. Should I try to stick it out and hope the Lamictal starts to work better? Or should I call my doctor and try to get in to see her sooner??

ANY advice would be greatly appreciated!

I would call your doctor and try to get in sooner. No need to live in misery.

Are you on 100mg twice a day? (It's supposed to be split in 2 doses, so if you are taking 100mg a day is it two 50 mg pills?)
You are nowhere near the max dosage, so be sure to tell your doc it's not working at your current dose.

I would try 200 BID. I think it's best in split doses. Doctor did the right thing to start slow, it's important on lamictal. But yeah, call doc office and at least get advice, they should be able to change things over the phone. Or if not, calling you should be able to get in easily for a quick appoitnment. hang in there.

high. anti-seizure drugs in mood disorders...can be tricky. it could be causing depression or making your depression worse. trileptal did that to me...dragged me down, and I didn't notice until I'd been tapered off...

there are other drugs out there for mood disorders, plus non-drug treatments. lamictal is popular right now, and its usually fairly easy to tolerate, compared to other drugs, but...

you do have options. please talk to the doctor prescribing this stuff. :-)

It's good that you are reaching out to your doctor, because waiting until November is way too long.

I had to be on multiple meds while I tapered up on Lamictal (which was a pretty long taper), and it wasn't doing much until I hit about 400 mg. That's just me though. I'm sure they'll work with you to get you to where you need to be! The process is frustrating, but hang in there.
