I have tried almost all the antidepressants and am going to ask my dr. for Cymbalta because I have bad arthritis pain plus depression. Hoping it will help the pain and depression, too.

90-120mgs can help if 60 doesn't, especially with pain on board. ((not my idea...former shrink...just sharing a tidbit...)

I was on Cymbalta for... oh... a year or two back several years ago now. (Memory fails me...) It was the only antidepressant that was of any consequence to me. I was on the maximum recommended dosage. It didn't resolve my depression-related issues entirely. But it kept a floor under me, as I like to say, so that when I began to slide downhill I would only tumble so far before the Cymbalta would kick my sorry behind back up to a more manageable level. At least that's the way it seemed to work for me. I have also had long-standing low-back-related problems plus sciatica & it seemed to help with that too.

I started out on the name brand product & switched to the generic when it became available. I never noticed any difference between the two. There were few side effects. One thing I did notice, after I had been on it for a while, was that my arm / hand movements started to develop a bit of "jerkiness". For example, when I was on the computer & moving my mouse around, periodically, my arm & hand would jerk forward a bit involuntarily.

I eventually went off the Cymbalta when I had to change health insurance plans & the out-of-pocket cost skyrocketed! I went in to see my pdoc & he recommended a reduction schedule that would take me from the maximum recommended dosage down to zero over the course of 2 weeks. I had heard stories with regard to people having difficulty trying to get off of Cymbalta. So I was hesitant. But, since that was his recommendation, I went with it & encountered no significant problems. I'm no longer on psych med's... nor any other med's of any kind either. But if I were to consider going back on an antidepressant, I'd seriously consider Cymbalta.

I sure hope it helps you, LucyD.

My experience with Cymbalta was that it didn't do anything for anything, least of all help with chronic pain. Gabapentin has been at least fairly helpful with easing pain.

Cymbalta was a good drug for me at 60mg. Coming off of it was Hell.

I've been on 80mg or a while. Maybe 6 months. Predominantly for depression and social anxiety. But I've worked with someone who took it for pain. Can't remember if it was sciatica or migraines or both. Also don't know the dose she's on, but she finds it really helpful

It helped me a lot. I actually want to ask my pdoc about going back on it, switching out the Wellbutrin. Coming off Cymbalta was extremely painful. I don't know if it was more so because of the fibromyalgia, but sometimes a person just hurts from depression or mood disorders anyway. The pain was very bad a week or two, started to improve with adjusted meds from the rheumatologist.
