None of them really helped me much.
Abilify slightly helps but is not an antidepressant. Also, any that help anxiety as well? |

Amitriptyline/Elavil
I got a drug rash from amitriptyline, so I'm now on the atypical Trintellix. It helps with cognition and motivation, but the mood effects are moderate. Better than nothing...

Emsam. It's an MAOI so at higher doses there are food and drug restrictions but if nothing else works this stuff has a role. Nothing worked well for me while trying everything on the market until I went on it and after 9 years it is still working really well.

Tofranil-PM was OK. oddly, generic Tofranil was not. Wellbutrin. low dose ritalin.
some people swear by mirapex. its off label. lamictal. gabapentin is helping my mood, but...im so obviously drugged, its crazy i tell you, just crazy. i was less obviously drugged on Klonopin, lol. b-100 complex. mine are time release (still cheap, btw) and I take 2 in the AM, with food. abilify takes the edge off. can't say i can expect much more, honestly. fish oil...but it apparently takes a lot for psych indications. 3 grams total dha+epa, combined. ugh. does help, though. and...my eyes are not as dry and itchy. success! |

My experience with antidepressants is pretty limited. I was on Sertraline for over a year - I had horrible initial side effects, then it started to help, I had to increase my dose by half a tablet and then I was overall much better. Increased my dose to two tablets (100mg) over a month ago due to going downhill again, but didn't get any improvements and started getting side effects again. At my last medication review, the doctor agreed to change my medication, so now I'm trying citalopram. Had a drug-free day and then started on the Citalopram. I'm only on 10mg at the moment (after my very adverse reaction to initial side effects of Sertraline, we decided to start at a very low dose of Citalopram), so I'll probably need to go up to at least 20mg before I start getting any therapeutic benefit. I'm feeling a bit rough at the moment (though definitely not on the level of starting on 50mg Setraline), but I feel like that could be more related to Sertraline withdrawal.

Mirtazapine + Effexor has destroyed my depression. That and Abilify. It is three drugs as opposed to one, but I haven't been depressed for several years now. Also, worth noting is the fact that Mirtazapine + Effexor can produce serotonin syndrome, which is bad, but with careful monitoring I have never had that happen.

I've had very good results with Prozac (fluoxetine), so never needed to try anything else. Takes a while to kick in, though.

I didn’t have any luck with them. The ones I were on caused me to put on 30-40 pounds. I only took one dose of Prozac and then I stopped it. I binged so badly on that one dose I just couldn’t handle being on it. Before that I was on Zoloft which caused a 30 pound weight gain in 3 months, and Celexa which caused a 37 pound weight gain as well.

The best ever for myself was Serzone. It helped my depression and angst. They took if off the market here and in Europe 16 years ago.
Before and after that I have lost count of the myriad of different medications I have tried. Currently coming off one medication and just desperate enough to go back onto another that I have had in the past that made me fall over. Sheesh. |

The only AD that have helped me are tianeptine and nortriptyline even if they don't kill 100% of my depression......
I am thinking on trying an MAOI.

Rexulti is an atypical antipsychotic that is very effective.
It is an Abilify that hits on more serotonin receptors.

It's an atypical antidepressant. It is not known exactly what it does, it seems to regulate the glutamate transmission and HPA axis, but it doesn't mess up with with serotonin, noradrenaline or dopamine. It's structure is tricyclic. It's not approved in the USA.
