Has anyone upped the dose of Lexapro from 10 to 20 mg and if so, did it help. I switched from Effexor xr 225 mg in Nov to Lexapro 10 mg. Did good for about a month and I can tell something's "off". That slimy pit is calling my name again and I've been there too many times.
Any comments appreciated. Thank You. |

Hm...I am on lexapro and have only been on 10mg (been on it for over a year). I would say talk to your doctor. A month is not that long, but if it keeps making you feel slimy and yucky, it may not be the drug for you. How did you do on effexor?

I agree, check with your doctor.
But I'm on 40 mg of Lexapro. We've found that tends to be the best dose for me (although I've tried 60mg and 80mg but they didn't help me any more than 40). For me, going up on Lexapro was the best thing to keep out of that pit of depression. |

yeah i went from 10 mg lexapro to 15 than 20. it helped for 3-6 months and began to stop working for me. i had an easy time tapering off of it.
for me problems included apathy, loss of interest in sex, dizzyness benefits included feeling stimulated (first month on it), i was able to naturally build more positive neural pathways to combat anxiety thought responses to physical stimuli, i felt emotionally numbed but grounded and not suicidal (for the first 3-4 months) all in all it helped, but probably not a magic bullet. none of the ssri's are magic bullets for people with complicated mental health situations (severe cases) lexapro didnt help with sleep and at first it gave me muscle aches in the thoracic muscle. had to use a thera cane and otc pain relievers. it's a good drug to buy you time to find better more complete options (switching ssri, adding something, changing dynamics in life, building better habits). it's not great but it's a smart life raft. because life is worth preserving. there is very happy emotions that are just around the corner they just feel far off in the distance |

hi. sometimes, adding something helps. im not trying to suggest a massive cocktail, but...what are your remaining problems? when I was having agitated depression, celexa was a godsend. when i went into lethargy and fatigue mode, wellbutrin did the trick.
i dont take antidepressant drugs long term, because of my diagnosis. lots of people do, though... a doctor could add remeron (sleep, anxiety, boost antidepressant effects...watch out for weight gain+sedation...), wellbutrin (stimulating), buspar (anxiety), even an antiseizure drug used in moody people (lamictal comes to mind...), off label drugs such as gabapentin (anxiety, agitation, mood)... some people do well w/ ritalin or a low dose amphetamine added in. kinda old school, but...do what works. low dose lithium, low dose antipsychotics... or maybe a different antidepressant, altogether? tricyclics are often effective when the more modern drugs have lost their power to keep the darkness at bay. tofranil, elavil, amoxapine, etc. etc. etc. im -- not -- at all trying to push things on you, i just thought id point out that sometimes adding something (even something as simple as an Rx vitamin, Deplin) can make a big difference, or at least... buy some time. the other thing is I think there's some cardio-thing w/ higher doses of celexa, maybe lexapro. :-( sorry about your troubles. there's hope! :-) |
