I'm sure this has been asked before. Sorry...

If I'm not anxious, I'm depressed.

I tried lexapro(escitalopram). It was great apart from the fact it depleted my libido completely. This just gave me one more stressor so i stopped.

I've been looking into bupropion (wellbutrin), which has fewer sexual side effects but they say you shouldn't take it if you have anxiety because it will just make it worse. I really don't want weight gain either.

Now I'm not sure .. should I treat my depression or my anxiety? I feel they are both bad.

My current doctor will give me Xanax twice a day. But he refuses to give me Wellbutrin because he says it will mess with my anxiety. If he’s giving me everything else, then it must be pretty bad for your anxiety. I can’t get any doctor to prescribe it for me. I also liked that it was pretty much the only med besides lamictal that didn’t cause weight gain.

I’ve found Geodon to be a lifesaver.

I take wellbutrin and I have a panic disorder along with bipolar. The wellbutrin works wonders for both with little to no side effects.

I have a history of anxiety, but I also take Wellbutrin, and it doesn't seem to affect it. In fact, in just take Xanax rarely now.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I what the doctors may mean when they do not wish to prescribe Wellbutrin for anxiety is that it has an activating effect, which can heighten anxiety as opposed to soothing it.

The activating effect is why a doctor should tell you not to take it after a certain time in the morning, as it can keep you up at night.

The chemical structure itself is related to some stimulants, similar yet milder than amphetamines.

My dr doesn't mind prescribing Wellbutrin for my anxiety problems, so I think it should be ok for you to try it.

I have anxiety disorders and wellbutrin made me feel really agitated. But my husband takes it and says it helps him with his anxiety.

Wellbutrin made me feel agitated. I have anxiety and BPII and I got so agitated at times that i was almost violent. So, I guess I would have to say that it is activating. My daughter takes Wellbutrin for anxiety and she has no trouble with it.

Like with all meds, it all depends on the person taking it whether it will work or not. Of course it also depends on the PDOC who is doing the prescribing. Good luck on your journey to find a med that works for you.

Welbutrin can often be taken in conjunction with other meds. I had sexual side effects from Cymbalta so my Dr added Welbutrin to counteract that and it works great. If the Lexapro was good for your anxiety maybe try both and see if you can find a good balance.

Wellbutrin can cause anxiety for people who didn't even have that problem before. When I first went up to 300mg I had terrible irritability. I dropped back down to 150mg and this time when I went back up to 300mg I had no problems at all. It's the only drug that really works for my depression. As far as weight gain--no. Some people lose weight on it because it decreases your appetite. I don't know why your doctor is being so stubborn about not even letting you try it.
