Just read the Stimulants for Depression thread.

I've had trouble finding an antidepressant that is effective. A very low dose of Effexor (37.5 mg) keeps me from getting weepy, but higher than that, and I get the hand tremors.

Provigil is a dream medication for me, but my health care plan won't pay for it because treatment of depression is a use outside of guidelines (which cover narcolepsy and that's it).

Anyone have any experience in getting a health care plan to cover this?

I have been seriously suicidal, have lost job, home, dogs, have been in a downward spiral, so I think not covering it is a kind of reckless endangerment (I watch way too much "Law and Order") on their part.

I also am taking neurontin to help me sleep. A law firm is running TV ads soliciting claimants of people who committed suicide taking it.

Again, it's a very low dose. I have tried to wean myself off it slowly, but I wind up staying up all night, and sleeping all day, which isn't good for job hunt or self-esteem or feeling healthy.

So, I'm on this daily round of effecor, alertec (Canadian version of Provigil which is the only way I can afford it) and neurontin. And when my drug plan cowbra runs out, I don't know how I will be able to continue these meds.

I take Provigil also and I can't afford it because I don't have the insurance and its almost $200 a month. Any way have you tried calling Provigil and asking them to intervene on your behalf? When I get my medicaid I won't be able to get it from the company anymore and they said I'd have a problem getting it because of the fact I use it for depression and not my sleep disorder and to call them back and they would help. Go to www.provigil.com to get the phone number...its worth a shot.

BTW I love my Provigil also.
