No meds work. Nothing stops the audible hallucinations or visuals. Just drinking till I don't care and sleep or eating packs of benzos till I sleep.

The only peace I have is sleep. I'm ruining my marriage.

I'm sorry you are struggling. Hopefully being here on PC can be of at least some small comfort.

Benzos and booze are the only things that help my social/generalized anxiety.

While I will readily admit that booze and benzo's do work, short term, as I used both for many years, I do feel that together they're a really bad combination.

They both suppress the central nervous system making it more likely that you'll overdose and stop breathing. Long term use together can also really negatively affect your memory.

Thanks for the responses. Ice tried other pyschiatric drugs but that's all that gives me a little bit of quiet. Booze has been particulary destructive.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that why but Drs are so reluctant to give you benzos. They act like they're super potent barbiturates from Mexico. I have to overuse them to get sleep. I can go through a whole script in a night.

If I told the Drs that they would flip.
Thanks for this!

I wouldn't say the booze and benzos are working. If you want stability you got to quit seeking oblivion and face life. Do you have a therapist?

That's the only way I get peace. Ive been committed three times. The crap they give me does nothing. I sit there all day crawling the walls because there's no peace.

It sucks you're struggling right now. Have you ever tried an antipsychotic medication like olanzapine or risperidone or others? You might find that puts a damper on those audible or visible hallucinations that bother you. They also might help you sleep. And, they also might improve your anxiety.

I know it's extremely frustrating to be in the position you're in.

Also, drinking and benzos aren't a good combination. Drinking and most psych meds are a bad combo, honestly, and I know this from experience.

But seriously, maybe if you found a medicine that gave you some relief, you might be able to cut down on your benzo use and/or your drinking.

I hope you find some relief!

Yeah I find both helps to an extent, although I rarely booze. I'm almost at the end of the rope now with medications especially the antipsychotics that are supposed to help my condition, its meant to help with hallucinations I think.

I am an alcoholic so no booze for me and I have to be super careful with benzos so I do not take them anymore. But both taken together will kill you and is never safe.

Well, alcohol will not stop psychosis and benzos will not, either.

Do you know what is causing your psychosis, e.g., audible and visual hallucinations?

Your marriage is on the rocks. It “takes two” in every relationship—both parties have issues that can contribute to deterioration of the marriage.

It sounds like you are self-medicating and are unwell and unhappy in your relationship. How can we be of support?

I apologize for my post as I see you have indicated insomnia is problematic.

What is causing your insomnia? An underlying condition like bipolar disorder or a sleep disorder?

You are reaching out. That is a good thing

Thanks the replies and sorry for the lateness. Ive pushed my wife to the brink. Ive gone missing on genders in a different country. I missed a layover flight for being delayed and got so drunk and mad with the voices I spent all my wife's money on booze. She had to fly and collect me from a mental hospital. She's at the end of her rope but she loves me very much and I do too but I'm so weak I can't give in to the booze or anything to blackout with.

People knock benzos or hypnotics but they're the only peace I get at all.

I understand I truly do. I used to drink and take benzos. Not together though super dangerous but I would take to many benzos. I did it exscape as well. Have you ever taken Invega?

The right medication should deal with the insomnia and hallucinations. When will you bee seeing your psychiatrist next? If your current p'doc is not helping maybe time to get a second opinion.
Mixing alcohol and benzos is a very dangerous thing to do. You need to get help.
