Can anyone offer a comparison of their experiences with the 2 drugs Invega and Rexulti? Or if not, just some insights about Rexulti or about switching from any AP to another.

I've taken Invega for 10 years and am dissatisfied with it. I don't think it does much for my depression. My doctor has hinted that after we've increased the dose of the latest antidepressant that I'm trying (Viibryd), we might change from Invega to Rexulti to see if that helps more.

I'm really worried about getting insomnia with Rexulti. I know it's more activating, while Invega is more subduing. I tried the original version Abilify for a month many many years ago, and it did indeed cause severe insomnia so I elected to go back to Invega. I wonder if Rexulti might be more tolerable for me than Abilify was.

I am also interested in the better side effect profile of Rexulti over Invega. I lost about 10 lbs. on Abilify, then gained it back on Invega. I have a BMI of 27 and high cholesterol so I would like to lose that weight.

I'm quite worried about switching. I worry about getting stuck with the new one until my next appointment. It could have severe side effects or the dose could be ineffective. It's an extreme struggle to try to get a walk-in appointment at my clinic if something is going wrong between appointments.

I was on invega for a long time but ended up switching to vraylar eventually, I started getting tardive diskenisia and a lot of weight gain from the invega. So far I haven't had any problems with vraylar and it's helped me a lot. only downside is it's very expensive if your insurance doesn't cover it because it only came out like 2 years ago and there's no generic yet. I don't know anything about rexulti

hi. rexulti and vraylar are both very new. some people already swear by them. my only problems are...a) cost and b) no long term data, yet. my concern would be that if abilify induced insomnia, rexulti (or vraylar) might, also. or not. i think rexulti can increase prolactin...but so do most antipsychotics. abilify i think can lower prolactin levels a bit from baseline...i have no idea what that translates to, in terms of overall health and well-being.

anyway...abilify and the new D2 partial agonists are supposed to provide symptom control with less...of the downside of antipsychotics, basically (weight gain, depression, slowed thinking, etc.). works wonders for some, proves to be a nightmare for others. its kind of strange to me that your psychiatrist would jump a rexulti, instead of maybe considering Abilify, with a short term sedative or something. i am prescribed a low dose of gabapentin to take as needed with abilify. i recall one doctor...he'd use low dose thorazine when starting abilify treatment. to me, that sounds like punishment, but he swore by it.

Rexulti can increase prolactin, unlike Abilify...That's not good. Maybe it's still better than Invega regarding side effects and antidepressant effects.

I never got gynecomastia in 10 years on Invega, and I've taken the highest dose (9 or 12 mg) most of that time.

I wouldn't recommend rexulti if you want to lose weight, it really piles on the lbs.
