I have been improving on 75mg amitriptyline alongside lithium for the last 2 1/2 weeks. I was convinced the only way was forward for me.
Saturday night I had a lot to drink, Sunday I had a couple more. Monday I started having a lot of anxiety and panic. Today I don't feel great at all and my sleep wasn't good. Hoping this is alcohol induced and not me going backwards again? |

Well, I'm not a medical expert, @rovers95, so take EVERYTHING I say with a grain of salt. I do believe mixing alcohol with Meds can have negative effects on your Body. Perhaps it's best to avoid drinking altogether if you can. I'd suggest to wait and see how it goes and if things get worse or don't get better perhaps contact your Pdoc as soon as you possibly can. I don't want to alarm you of course, but it's best to be careful as far as our own health is involved. Either way, it's good that you've acknowledged this and that you've reached out to us. Feel free to PM me anytime when you need Advice and Support. Let us know how things go! Sending many safe, sweet, warm and WONDERFUL Hugs to you, rovers95, Along with MANY, MANY Positive Vibes Your Way!

Yes. Alcohol inhibits the therapeutic effects of antidepressant medications. Depending on how much you drink you could also have very serious adverse reactions. Most (if not all) doctors will tell you not to drink while taking psychiatric medications. Taking alcohol and your medications can increase the sedative effects. If you drink enough then this combined effect could cause your body some serious damage. You might not wake up.

What is your reason for drinking? I think needs to be determined.
Are you drinking because of your depression? Were you out with friends and felt weird not drinking? Alcohol is most certainly a depressant and to be avoided if taking a psych Med in general. __________________ Helping others gets me out of my own head ~ |
