I'm going from 2 mgs to 1 mg of diazepam Thursday. I'm worried I will have really bad anxiety and my psych nurse is going on vacation and I'm worried that her replacement won't help me out. I just need some support. Thanks!

Are you going off of it all together or just lowering it?

I'm coming off of Clonazepam myself was on 2.5mg for many years. I'm down to 1mg daily. Tomorrow I'm gonna be tapering down to .75mg for a month. My withdrawal syndrome with this drug is horrible.

I'm doing a slow withdrawal from Clonazepam, with a cross taper to Valium. I'm down form 3.5 mg of clonazepam to 2 mg.
You might want to check out benzobuddies.org It's a great site with lots of advice and support for getting off benzos. splitimage |

Why are your guys doctors taking you off it? Are they forcing you off it? I’m on Xanax and I need it at least once a day but sometimes two and I don’t want him to take me off it.

Been on it for a decade. Taking a successful SSRI now. Also you should look into the long term physical effects that occur with benzodiazipine use.

Oh yeah, I'm a member lol. But sometimes it triggers me and I'm like this next cut is gonna be awful. But my psych nurse is adamant I do it this way.

Yes my psych nurse who is very educated about meds is essentially forcing me off as well as all her clients. She says they can cause dementia in the older years....

I'm getting off it voluntarily, my Dr. was happy with my decision when I said I wanted to come off it, but he was willing to keep prescribing it.
I decided to come off it, because I'm starting to have memory issues which is a side effect of long term use. I've also found other meds, that are actually better at helping me with my anxiety. splitimage |

If you ever want off it look into the Ashton method. It's not as hard coming off them that way...

I did a very slow taper from klonopin, which I think is more powerful than valium and just take xanax PRN. I think knowing I have it just in case helps.

How long were you on Valium?
I am tapering valium once more (a psychiatrist at an eating disorder treatment center put me on Xanax three times a day when I was a minor!). My psychiatrist and I tapered Valium back in March, but the taper was far too aggressive, so I went back on the medication. Currently, I am following the Ashton Method as well. Slow and steady wins the race. If you taper too quickly, you're at a much higher risk for protracted withdrawal. __________________ "Are we not all hungry ghosts chasing the phantoms of our choice?" - Alexander Lazarus Wolff “Live or die, but don't poison everything.” -Anne Sexton “If with a pure mind a person speaks or acts, happiness follows them like a never-departing shadow.” - The Buddha |

Benzo's are a slippery slope. The help you our until they don't. I wish you the best of luck on your taper.

I refuse to be on anything that will cause weight gain because I gain massively on basically anything. I’ve worked 4 years on losing and keeping off the weight that psych meds caused. I will gain a ton on Zoloft and Seroquel. It’s happened before with both of them. I’m hoping he either won’t take me off it when I see him on Wednesday or I’ll just have to deal with it. But I refuse to take something where I’ll gain even 20 pounds. I know I have about 60 Ativan and I’ve never had a problem with Ativan. If he takes me off my Xanax I can just switch back to the Ativan and slow taper off that.
