I take a few meds but I've been having issues with my antidepressant, Remeron. 15 mg stopped working for sleep and isn't cutting it for my depression. I tried increasing to 30 mg but got terrible akasthesia so had to lower again. Now I feel like I need to ask my doctor about switching over to something else. I tried 10 mg Doxepin a few months ago for sleep but it didn't work too well. Now I'm wondering if a higher dose would help both sleep and depression. Has anyone had success with this med and at what dose?

I took Doxipin in the past specifically for insomnia. I honestly didn’t know it came in such a low dose. I started at 50mg then had to move up to 100mg to get the help from chronic insomnia.
Maybe ask for an increase ? I had to be careful initially as I have Bipolar and for some it can cause Hypo/mania..

no experience taking doxepin, but...
Tofranil or Tofranil-PM, maybe? Its an old school drug...the original TCA...but, for me, it got the job done with less apathy than cymbalta,, plus it can be dosed at night, which helped me sleep. elavil is also sedating, but i think the dose has to be spread out over 3 intervals. surmontil is another anti-anxiety, antidepressant in the tca family that can be used, full dose, for both sleep+mood disorders..... you and the psych in charge of your Rx have plenty of options. I personally would choose either a tca or remeron, not both. |
