I have been taking Xanax for years now, and have been given many different generic versions by pharmacies. Some seem to work more quickly but also taper off more quickly. Some have a slower onset, but seem to last longer. Some seem to be ineffective.

I'm curious if anyone else experienced this? I suppose it could be all in my head :-) .

It's not in your head. Tiny differences will impact your brain. I was on Xanax a long time ago. Xanax was working fine. Then I was switched over to Kalma (Generic brand). On Kalma I was crying so much more. It was horrid. I changed back to Xanax and the tears stopped. After that I made sure I got the Xanax.

Our brains are sensitive to the subtle changes. Try and ask for the one that works for you. That being said it is possible that your brain has built up a tolerance to Xanax and needs more to have the same effect? Benzo's can seem less effective over time because our bodies have become used to it.

Maybe it is time to talk to the person who is giving you a script for this medication and seeing if there might be another alternative.

I switched generics on my birth control after being on the same one for years. It made me feel really weird for a day. I swear the different shaped topamaxs I have work differently. I have about 2 bottles of them. Both work in different ways.I’ll be switching pharmacy’s in January. And will probably have a different generic of Xanax. I hope I don’t have a problem.
