If you are in the U.S and take medication to aide sleep, what are you taking?
Have been on Temazepam for decades. The generic temazepam that works for me is manufactured by Mylan. Mylan’s temazepam has been on back order since June, 2019. I tried the other temazepam generics, none worked for me. My insurance finally ok’d the brand name, Restoril. Restoril has always worked great. Now my pharmacy is telling me that Sandoz is discontinuing Restoril. I can’t get it. Have used Dalmane in the past. Didn’t like the metallic after taste. Do manufacturers still make Dalmane? Have not tried Lunesta. Have tried Ambien- it didn’t make me sleepy. Not interested in taking trazedone or any SSRI. Have tried supplements, they did not work well or they interfered with other meds I’m taking. What do you take? |

I used to take Ambien, and clonazepam, and lunesta. They all have pros and cons. However, I don't mean to sway you but you'll have a lot better sleep results with finding the source of your insomnia. Exercise, more brain stimulating activities during the day, healthier diet and good sleep hygiene will have incredible effects in your ability to fall asleep and stay asleep.
I also eliminated caffeine completely from my diet. I survived insomnia and you can too. Common causes of poor sleep: - Lack of exercise - stress - caffeine and other stimulants - medications - poor diet and eating too close to bed time - sleep apnea - bad back and neck posture during sleep - unsuccessful treatment of a underlying psych disorder. - rebound insomnia from drug withdrawal More uncommon causes of sleep problems: - untreated asthma - untreated GERD - untreated heart conditions (HBP specifically) - untreated inflammatory conditions - lack of sexual activity (the body has needs, this is real) - food allergies I hope this comes in handy it did for me. - Daniel (PharmD) -Cheers! |

We are dealing with many of the issues listed. Thank you for the list.
The situation is complicated and none of these issues are going to be resolved in the next few months. Would any one else like to share which meds they’ve found helpful? You may PM if you prefer. Thanks! |

The single most helpful med for sleep I have ever used and there have been many, for me, has been Remeron. It will put me to sleep without fail. Oh, that and higher dose Seroquel. Other than those, neither of which I can now take, nothing works for me for me than a couple of days.

I take Lunesta, the generic version of it anyhow, but because I also take Vyvanse, which is an ADHD med--so a stimulant, I sometimes have to take Xanax (this was okayed by my Dr) with the Lunesta in order to be able to go to sleep. But once I'm asleep I sleep straight through. It's been very helpful to me.

I have a very difficult time sleeping. I am currently on restoril it helps me fall asleep but not stay asleep. The only medicine that has helped me to fall asleep and stay asleep was thorazine. The only problem is I felt like a zombie the next day.

Brand name Restoril works the best for me. The Restoril generic manufactured by Mylan also works well but Mylan’s generic Restoril has been on back order since last June. I can’t get it. The other generic Restoril brands do not work for me. My pharmacy says the manufacturer (Sandoz) is discontinuing brand name Restoril. Have you heard any thing about that? |

Mallinkrodt is a giant in the generic drug industry , the thing to remember about all drug shortages since the pharmaceutical industry began is they can all be traced back to companies manipulating availability to either artificially cause a higher demand and raise price ,or in manipulation of stock prices for shareholders , there are 100's of vital lifesaving drugs with no generic or equivalent medication that isn't bringìng in enough money so big pharma stops stops making it for long periods ,until the heat from bad press or another company decides to manufacture it ,then it becomes urgent to make it again . Flurazepam is still being made although a lot of doctors don't know it or want to prescribe it ,it's therapeutic effect and it's toxicity are closer together than some doctors like . I take 60 of Temazepam until I build up tolerance, then switch to Flurazepam ,I have a circadian rythym disorder and have been doing this dance for more than 40 years,I have tried everything from ancient to current (Suvorexant & Razmelteon ) with zero success , i have also according to my doctor shredded the world record for most hours awake, since its illegal to track he wont give me the number , the world record was last set in '78 the guy was just north of 241 hours when his body quit and died.
