Hello,

Recently I've been prescribed lamictal. But pdoc told to start from 50mg and after 2 weeks to 100mg. Isn't it too fast? I know that titration should be started from 25 mg. I'm just concerned about the rash I could get from rapid titration.

Hi, signs. I'm thinking the rash can just occur and doesn't have anything to do with titration. It's been a long time since I was on it and I never had any rash. I think it's pretty rare. Have you mentioned your concern to your doctor?

Maybe someone else who's just been put on it lately might have more insights, though.

Good to have you here--and I hope Lamictal works well for you. I know lots of people take it.

I was started off at a small dose at first. If you're concerned, I would talk to your doctor about it.

Hey,
Thanks for the answers. Next week I've appointment with pdoc. I'll discuss it. First day and I get mild itching, doesn't seem serious

That does sound like a rapid titration for Lamictal to me. And yes, titrating too rapidly can increase risk of the SJS rash. That's why they have such strict titration rules in place.

Just so you know, Lamictal (and really any anticonvulsant for that matter) can and will likely cause benign rashes while you take them, so don't be alarmed if you start to develop a rash. If you develop SJS, you will know if it's SJS or not. If in doubt, look up pictures of SJS (make sure you have a strong stomach). It is very distinctive in appearance.

Lamictal made me have acne all over my shoulders, back, and chest, as well as red-ish purple-ish rashes all over my arms and legs. I tried all sorts of oral antibiotics and topical medicines for the acne and lotions for the rashes to no avail. It's just something you'll likely have to deal with.
