Hello,

I recently had a talk with my pdoc due to med changes. I want to mention that I've bipolar disorder, generalised and social anxiety disorders. I was asking my pdoc to change my AD from Effexor to paroxetine. She refused because she uses it only for patients who have severe anxiety.

Well, my anxiety is debilitating, I've to take anxiolytics in order to function 30% more. I don't feel like myself, and anxiety raises my heart rate, blood pressure, fear of going outside, anxiety attacks and much more.

I think i need to prepare for next appt to say about my anxiety

So what is better, Paroxetine or Prozac?

This is certainly a topic of conversation for you to have with your doctor.

Prozac and Fluoxetine are from the same family of anti depressants. Which one is better? Some people will respond better to one than the other. Nobody can tell you which one is better for you. It a medication that you need to try for yourself to know how it will work.

I feel that.

Paroxetine threw me into hypomania within hours, but that was long time ago, i was under emotional stress from a breakup and without any mood stabiliser and antipsychotic.

Prozac, i dont know if it was effective because i couldn't bear side effects. Also it was long time ago, and I'm under totally different circumstances.

Now i take lamictal and zyprexa, so still wondering what to choose. What is more important, anxiety or depression

For me, Prozac helped with depression, but sent my anxiety through the roof. Have you tried Zoloft before? That's one I've tolerated best (generalized anxiety, panic disorder, OCD, and major depression that comes and goes).

Personally I didn't have much luck with Prozac or Paroxetine. But I don't have bipolar. I have Schizoaffective--depressed type. I'm on a mix of trintellix and cymbalta. Seems to be doing the trick. Also have some other meds mixed in there like an antipsychotic and some anxiety meds/sleep meds. I take xanax as needed for anxiety. I like ativan better but my pdoc likes xanax for some reason so that's what I take.
