Hi I've been taking citalopram for 3 weeks now and I’m getting brain zaps and headaches like the ones you get when you stop taking antidepressants.
Anyone else experience this or any tips on how to deal with this? |

Dear MeXoXO,
I am so sorry that is happening to you. How awful! I have been on Citalopram for over ten years and have not experienced those brain zaps and headaches, even when I first started taking it. I did experience these things when I was on a Tricyclic Antidepressant. And it was really distressing. I hope these side effects wane as the weeks wear on. I read somewhere that it can take 6 weeks for some antidepressant side effects to pass if they are going to pass. Unfortunately I cannot remember the source of that information and so it not something that you or anyone could or should rely upon. What does your prescribing physician say about all this? Sincerely yours, Yao Wen |

Yes, I have definitely had brain zaps and bad headaches when starting out on a new AD. The headaches did stop after a short time and the brain zaps lessened. With some SSRI's (especially Zoloft) "sort-of" brain zaps remained...more like...if I turned my head quickly it felt odd. That did go away after I was off the med, though.

I haven't had brain zaps, but have had headaches when starting new AD's. I always found they went away after a few weeks. Hopefully, they'll stop for you.
