I am going to be starting emsam/seleginline patch soon. I am coming off the Effexor, Zoloft, and Welbutrin now as I cannot be on any of that class of meds.
I was wondering if any one has experience taking this med? I also would like to know if you do the patch or capsules? I'm a bit shaky going without my standard meds as I have bee on them 20 yrs. I have finally weaned off of the Effexor of which I was on 600 msg, ![]() I have done ECT every week for the passed 5 yrs. and that helps pause the loop tape of suicidal thoughts. This transition period between meds has been tough. Well Thank you for all your help. |

Dear Bird Feeder,
I just read your post but must confess my ignorance of the patch you mentioned. I did a little reading on it and apparently it is an MAO Inhibitor antidepressant. Is that correct? I have never tried an MAOI but have heard nothing but things about them. I hope the patch leads to the very best outcome for your health and I also hope you will keep posting on how things are going in your treatment. Thanks for sharing what did. Hopefully others here with experience with the patch will see your post and respond to it with helpful words. So sorry I could not be helpful to you in this matter. I wish you only the very best! Sincerely yours, Yao Wen |

Thank you Yao Wen for your quick response.. It is an MAOI and that's why I have to be off certain classes of medicine before I try it. MAOI brings with it some very strict dietary restrictions that hopefully taking the patch will help me avoid......at least that is what my Doctor says/hopes:-).
I will definitely keep this post updated with how well it works. Have a great day! |

I was on it. I recommend getting medical tape to tape it on because it comes off before the end of the day.

Oh no, that is just what I don't want to happen. Did it work for you? Did you have to follow a restrictive diet? Thank you for your input :-) I'll let you know how it goes. |

I know there were some things I was supposed to avoid but it was a while ago so I don’t remember. I know there were a lot of drugs I couldn’t take. The waterproof medical tape works well other wise it fell off by lunch time.

I'm on and have been for 11 years. It works great for me. The lowest dose has no dietary restrictions. The middle and high dose do. However my pdoc is pretty lenient with them on the middle dose after talking to the developer of the drug. On the highest dose I'm on the restrictions but I'm rarely on the high dose.
I find the patches stick pretty well on my upper outer thighs. I had a lot more trouble when I used to use them on my chest or arms. It helps to get them to stick if you put them on after a shower when your skin is warm and then hold your hand over the patch for about 15 seconds. Make sure there isn't any lotion where you are applying it. It's been an amazing drug for me. I hope it is for you too. If I can answer any more questions please post.

I was on EMSAM for 18 months. Had a very bad experience. Raging insomnia and bad temper set in around month #6, always anxious and keyed up. Side effects coming off of it were bad as well.
I found the patch stuck best to my outer thighs. It always fell off if I tried my upper arm. |
