So long story but the just of it is...
I've been diagnosed with bipolar 1 since 2010. Since then I have always been med non compliant. I have been on for last 10 years Depakote 1,000mg. I was on Serequol and Serequol XR totaling 350mg and then I had to stop that one and they started me on Aririprazole. Anyways life on meds is complicated. But then life off meds is also complicated. I stopped all meds in April 2020 until Nov 2020. Then I was put on the depot injection. They say if the decision is took away from me I might flare better on meds. So since Nov 2020 I have received 3 injections. My question is... Do any of you get this injection or a similar injection? How do you feel having it done ie do you resent it etc? |

Hm. I have gone off meds in the past, but I was wondering, do you think the meds help you? If they help - and you're okay with taking them, then take them. I know it's complicated because sometimes doctors think that people with mental health issues lack the ability to know whether they're ill at times, but I genuinely think that may be a mistaken notion.
I don't know. I also considered going on an injection at some point, but I felt like that completely took away my agency.

My team have said I need the power took away from me (stopping and starting meds). They need to be in control else I'll never be stable. I have to still take Depakote orally but Aripiprazole I have them administer it. I go to the clinic and they do it. It's quick and easy. I would prefer not to take meds but needs must I guess

I see. Yeah I have come to the conclusion that I need similar stuff. I just prefer not to have the injections just to feel like I'm in control. By all means, though, if that works for you, then do it.
I have had lots of trouble when I go off of my meds too. So I can empathize with that.

I also have Bipolar I and get the Aripiprazole injection.
I don't resent it - I'm thankful my pdoc and staff care enough to make sure I'm getting my meds |

I was on a high dose of the injection for one year and it did me wonders. I think it saved my life. I did not resent it. I am now on the pill form an doing well.
