I've been taking Adderall since last June(?), ever since being DX'ed with ADHD. I started with the IR version, and after a month went to the XR version. It worked okay for awhile, but never lasted long enough. Eventually, I was on 20mg XR in the morning and 10mg IR in the afternoon....but that wasn't really working for me either.
I talked yo my pdoc, and she suggested trying Vyvanse because it is slightly different from Adderall and lasts longer. She also said that if I feel like I need an IR booster in the afternoon to let her know and she would happily do that for me. And if that still doesn't work, she'll want to try me on something from the ritalin family. Today I took my first dose of Vyvanse, 40mg, and so far, so good! I skipped my morning coffee/tea, because I didn't know how it would affect me (I still drank it when taking Adderall, but since Vyvanse is slightly different, and I'm working, I didn't want to take any chances). I don't feel the same "jolt" as Adderall used to give me, and feel like I could focus on anything right now. A better test will be tomorrow when I have to teach science because I always get distracted during that especially. I work full time, and am also a full time student, so I need to be productive for a long period of time everyday, at least Monday through Friday...and I'm hoping that Vyvanse will do the trick! I'm curious to see what side effects I get too. Adderall's only real side effect for me was appetite loss during the day which then often caused me to binge at night. I'm hoping that doesn't happen with Vyvanse. How long should I give this dose (40mg) before deciding if I need to change anything? I'm thinking at least 2 weeks, maybe a month? My pdoc is very responsive to me, so if I feel like something needs to change, she's always willing to do it. What have your experiences with Vyvanse been? I want the good, the bad, and the ugly. |

I'm on Vyvanse 60 mg. It is very good for my ADHD. It did cause some appetite suppression but I didn't notice an increase in appetite in the evening. It lasts all day for me. There hasn't been any side effects except for insomnia. When I first took it I would stay up until 4 AM which is not conducive to my work environment because that is when I need to be getting up. Eventually Pdoc prescribed me Lunesta at night and that works. Vyvanse is a life changer for me with ADHD. Hopefully you will have a good response from it.

I already take seroquel for sleep, so I'm not worried about that aspect of it. Today has gone well so far. I didn't need any caffeine, which is new for me, because even on Adderall I needed my morning coffee, and I've felt focused. No jitters, no increased heart rate, nothing bad. I'm going to give it a week or two at this dose, but I do think that I'll probably ask to go up to 50mg instead of staying at 40mg. I'm hoping that if I do that I won't need an IR booster in the afternoon. Today I feel like I might could use a booster, but it's also just day 1 and my body is used to having one. |
