I’m looking into medication to treat my BPD. But I’m not sure where to start. I was on Wellbutrin for a long time but haven’t been on it for a while. I don’t really want to try it again. I didn’t have any issues with it but it didn’t work after a while.
I was prescribed Zoloft but I haven’t started it yet.
But I was thinking of possibly starting antipsychotics or even adding one to an antidepressant.
I just need to know other peoples first hand experiences with meds. I know everyone is different but my biggest worry is increased brain fog, I deal with enough of it already, and weight gain. I’ve lost 60 pounds and it costed me a lot to get where I am and I don’t want to gain it back. Petty worry but it’s still a real one for me.
I’ve never tried antipsychotics just an FYI. But I’ve been on many brands and types of anti depressants.
Thank you!

Gaining weight is not a petty worry. I have gained from Seroquel and my blood pressure, blood glucose, and cholesterol have all risen.

From me, who has been on many antipsychotics, be cautious about them. They really change your life, and not all in good ways. If you do use an AP keep it at a very low dose. You don't have psychosis, do you?

For BPD it seems that an antidepressant and a mood stabilizer (such as Lamictal) might be a good idea. But your pdoc is the one to ask for sure.

I dissociate quite a bit. I have significant memory issues as well. Brain fog is quite thick. And my mood goes very low. I get quite depressed and have very rapid splitting throughout the day.

Do you think an AP will help your symptoms?

Couldn’t hurt to try at this point. I feel like I only have a few options. Get help or fall further in the hole. I just have worries about medications. I’m already emotional. And have a lot of brain fog. I don’t want things to get worse. But they will anyways without some help.
Started back up with counselling. Session is a few weeks away but it’s something.

Agreed be cautious with the antipsychotics. If you do go for them, Latuda tends to be more favorable with regards to metabolic issues. More weight neutral than the others
Thanks for this!

Antipsychotics have caused me a lot of weight gain but also brought me a lot of stability. Mixed bag.
