Anyone ever go to a pdoc for a second opinion? I have a pdoc that I've been with for years but he no longer takes insurance so he's quite expensive. My case manager suggested I get an appointment with an in network doctor to get a second opinion about my medications. So I have that next week. I worry that the doctor will want to totally change everything. And I'm worried my original doctor will be displeased I went for a second opinion.

Yeah, I've gotten second opinions before. Honestly, what came of them was nothing that revelatory. (Not saying it won't be for you).

One doc I got a second opinion from wanted to completely change my medications, another wanted to keep some things the same but change others.

All in all, it wasn't helpful for me.

I think it makes sense to do if you're dissatisfied with the care you're getting from your current doc. I understand the money piece, too. But if you're getting proper care, then why rock the boat?

That's just my opinion based on my own experience.

My pdoc actually sent me to get a second opinion because he was stumped. It ended up with me inpatient for 4 weeks to try new meds. That is where they decided I was bipolar and why antidepressants were bad for me. It made me like my pdoc more because he was willing to ask for help when he needed it.

My pdoc sent me for a 2nd opinion just in case he was missing something. The 2nd opinion doc only made recommendations and sent that information to my usual pdoc. Then we discussed the suggestions, etc. and made decisions about what to implement or not together.
