Hi there,
My pdoc raised my dose of Prozac to 40mg and I had a great response. Now I'm getting the same yucky feeling which leads me to believe I need more. What in your experience is the next dosing jump, 50 or 60, and how long do I have to be on 40 before raising? Many thanks! |

I am on 60 which I have been told is the max possible which was a lift from 40mg after a years. Not sure how much impact the extra 20mg had to be honest.

What do you mean by the yucky feeling you mention?
Typically from 40 mg, the next step would be 60 mg, and then 80 mg if you needed it. 80 mg is usually the very highest dose, but in very rare cases, the dose can be increased to as much as 120 mg (usually reserved for extremely treatment-resistant OCD). For Prozac, dose increases tend to take a little longer to assess whether they're going to work or not. I would say probably 3-4 weeks minimum based on its very long half-life. (The longer the half-life, the longer a medicine takes to reach steady-state blood levels.) There are some studies that actually suggests that lower doses of Prozac (i.e. 20 mg) are actually better for depression than higher doses. Higher doses tend to be better for anxiety (and depression with anxiety). Dose-response relationship of recent antidepressants in the short-term treatment of depression Quote:
