My psychiatrist has added Buspirone 5mg while I’m taking Pristiq for anxiety. I was supposed to start Buspirone last week but I have been putting it off because I’m afraid of side effects. Also, I have been on Pristiq for two weeks. On my GeneSight test, Buspirone was on my green list so I hope that’s good. Basically, I need to start taking it because I cannot keep taking klonopin for anxiety/ panic. I’m worried about it.

I've been on Buspirone for over 10 years and never had any problems with it. I didn't experience any side effects when I started it or throughout my treatment with it. I take it with the antidepressant Citalopram. Before my doctor added Buspirone, I had a lot of anxiety as well as panic attacks. I feel the Buspirone has helped with the anxiety and reduced the frequency and intensity of panic attacks. Of course I can only speak for myself and my own experiences and I am not a doctor or medical professional of any kind. So my opinions are subjective and not things that can be relied upon.

Anxiety is terrible. I am glad there is medicine that works for me and I hope you find things that work for you!

Buspar never worked for me, but my daughter (she has an anxiety disorder) finds Buspar very helpful. If it showed up as green on your GeneSight test, that's a plus.

I got off buspar and lost 70 pounds. But I’ve heard it helps a lot of people with anxiety and they often lose weight from it. If you need to go off it you may not have any withdrawals. I took myself off it and it was very easy to do. My Pdoc wasn’t exactly happy but then he saw how I was looking physically and then he was ok with it.

But I have never met anyone who’s gotten an increased hunger from it. My case was just basically unheard of. My doctor didn’t believe me but then after awhile he was just really confused but he did believe it. So I wouldn’t worry about it.
