It's a long story. I moved to one state this year and moved back. And I've been on a waiting list for several months to get my old psych doctor and therapist back. My primary care provider said she would prescribe refills. I called them all in, got everything except my psych meds and they were unwilling to prescribe them. I called and talked over the phone, and was accused of falsifying records. Because when I was in the other state, my insurance wouldn't pay for Saphris. I didn't have a psych doc yet so my doctor there put me on Seroquel at the lowest dosage. I've been on that. I got here and because it's not on my records (though I DID tell them about the medication change when I got back...) they refused to refill it and told me I needed to get records from the clinic out of state for proof. I called the clinic in CO, and they lost my release form...I had to call back and wouldn't get off the phone until I knew they were faxing my records. I was called by my clinic and told normally they wouldn't prescribe this medication but they would this time until I was in to see a psych doctor.
Well, the prescription never happened. I keep calling and asking at my pharmacy. I sent a message through the client portal with my doctor's office and got no response. So the other day I called to set up an appointment and found out my provider left. No one even told me this was happening. I will now have a new provider. But the dilemma of not having my medication continues. It seems no matter what I try I can't make this happen. I will have a new psych doctor soon. How soon? I don't know, I'm on a waiting list. Does anyone else feel this is a really messed-up system? So far I've just had a headache that won't go away and feel rather blah. It's been 6 days. I've had no symptoms, but I'm still understandably concerned about a relapse. I do know, if any symptoms start happening I am to take myself to the hospital. I just find this whole situation so aggravating and ridiculous. Sometimes it feels like the medical and mental health field doesn't care at all. |

No one is commenting but I need to vent. So I contact my doctor's office again this morning. Benedryl isn't working for me anymore and I've been awake since yesterday morning. I'm so tired of the endless headache and dizziness and feeling like garbage. I know after a week these things tend to improve, and today is the 7th day for me, but not being able to sleep is so intolerable. I am having such a hard time handling this. I just want to sleep. I'm feeling so restless and irritated. I'm bored. This is too much time awake and I have nothing to do. I'm begging them for help. This is just...so hard. I wish there was a way to get my medication or make this easier.

I don't understand why doctors complain about patients being "non compliant," then they make it so difficult to get medication.
For sleep melatonin helps, so does ZzzQuil. Personally, I've never found Benadryl helpful at all. __________________ |

I don't understand why they are giving you such a hard time about getting seroquel. It's not like its a controlled substance like a benzo. I hope you get this resolved soon.

I sent out a rather pathetic, desperate message in the patient portal and they called me back and told me they are prescribing it today. But seriously, I have no idea why they've given me so much trouble. Even after I had my medical records sent and everything. It sounded like the doctor forgot to send it through? Why are these places so incompetent? I've done everything I am supposed to do, and I did it the right way. I'm considering changing my primary care doctor and going somewhere else because this whole situation could have been avoided and was beyond ridiculous. I called for this prescription well before I was close to running out. It's also not my fault I was on a waiting list. Everywhere I called there was a waiting list. When I did my in-take last week they told me the situation was not my fault and to tell my primary care that because they are supposed to prescribe my psych meds until I am in with a psych doctor.
Thank you both for listening though. I'm just happy I finally am going to get it. Interestingly, I didn't have mania or psychotic symptoms when I went off it, I'm well beyond the 1-4 days when the rebound is supposed to happen. I'm wondering if I even still need this medication beyond using it as a sleep aid. I'm going back on it, but I'm going to talk to my future psych doctor about it and see what he thinks. I know you should never just quit medications like this. You're supposed to taper off and I never want to go off anything without support and supervision. I still think this should never have happened to me. |

I'm really sorry that you had to go through all that.
One of the things you can get here from pharmacies is a list of all medications you've been prescribed, dose, and how long you've been prescribed it. I've found it very helpful when I've had to go to the hospital or to see a specialist. Glad they finally agreed to provide it. |

All the withdrawal symptoms are gone, after being awake for over 24 hours I finally got sleep. 12 hours. Today I have a migraine. But at least the rest of the symptoms are gone and I don't feel so sick.
