Has anyone heard of Lybalvi? My Doctor is going to try to put me on it instead of Olanzapine. It's supposed to be Olanzapine mixed with something else but have less of a weight gain component. Anyone tried it? He is going to have to get it approved by my insurance though. Thanks, Kit

@Slumberkitty - first time I have heard of it but that does not mean anything.

Here is what appears to be manufacturers website https://www.lybalvi.com/

I think if I wanted reliable info I would ask pharmacist or pdoc.

Thanks @CANDC

I was mostly interested in anyone's opinion of it. Did it work better than regular Olanzapine etc? Pdoc told me a little about it but he still has to get it preapproved for my insurance to cover it. I see on the website there is a savings card so that might come in handy. Pdoc is always on the "cutting edge" which means I pay more for prescriptions because he gives me the new ones on the market. Regular Olanzapine was pretty cheap. I have a feeling lybalvi will be more expensive but if it keeps me from gaining so much weight on it then it will be worth it.

@SlumberKitty hope you get someone that has used it. Since it is very new you might be one of the first ones.

I have heard of it, but do not know much about it. It's a medication combo with Olanzapine and Samidorphan as its active constituents. Samidorphan can treat potential metabolic side-effects of the Olanzapine. I am currently on Olanzapine ODT 30mg per day. My main complaint is how tired I feel all the time. But if it keeps my symptoms at bay, I guess I just have to live with it.

I took Lybalvi. The samidorphan made me feel weird, but that doesn't mean it'll do the same for you. I was also on a lot of other things that would probably interact with the samidorphan at the time. Anyway, hope it works for you if it gets approved by insurance. If it doesn't get approved, there's always the route of the discount card from the manufacturer of Lybalvi, which you can find on their website and download it after filling in a bit of information.

My new medication better be amazing. It was supposed to cost me $250 which is like $8.20 per pill but I got a savings card online. THANK GOODNESS! I hope it doesn't make me gain weight. It's supposed to be more weight neutral than Olanzapine.

Anyone else get dry mouth and dissociation on this medicine? These are kind of annoying side effects. Especially as the dissociation lasts all day. It is only day 2 of taking the medicine so maybe my body will get used to it.

The dissociation has been so bad I haven't been taking it. I am like numb out of my gourd on it.

I am still having trouble trying to adapt to the Lybalvi. My Pdoc says it shouldn't be more sedating than the Olanzapine alone but it is way more sedating. I took one yesterday morning and then slept 12 hours last night. The last two hours at work, I could barely concentrate because I was so numbed out on the Lybalvi. I can't deal well with this medication. I am still exhausted this morning and dissociated. I am like way out of my gourd. I don't know if it is the Samidorphin doing this or what. Plus my Pdoc said I am on the same dose but I used to cut the Olanzapine in half so it's like double what I used to take. Hmm. I don't see him again until the 31st of August but I don't think I can handle this medication until then.

Have you considered taking it at night?

Yeah but I take it as a PRN so when I go to sleep I don't have to worry about hallucinations or anything like that. I don't know. Pdoc didn't really listen to me when I said it was too sedating.
