Have you tried both drugs? Which one was worse for weight gain?

I'm on seroquel, tried everything. Zyprexa is the only one I havent due to similar side effects. But I'm wondering if I should try it.

I had some weight gain with Seroquel, but it wasn't a crazy amount and I managed to loose it through diet and exercise. I've never tried zyprexa.

Zyprexa causes weight gain almost invariably. In my experience, though, it can be managed with diet and exercise (but this isn't the case for some people). Anyway, if your doctor prescribes it, it's probably worth trying. Zyprexa has also helped a lot with my psychosis and mood.

Yeah I've heard it's common to put on weight with zyprexa.
How much did you put on?
With seroquel, you can diet and exercise too (for some people) but you may not lose all the weight, just some of it. It's incredibly hard.

I've only ever managed to lose some weight from seroquel, and it's been incredibly difficult to shed the weight. Glad you have a different story though

I have tried several antipsychotics and one thing to consider is the dose. Zyprexa is very effective for me compared to other antipsychotics, so I can take a much lower dose than others. I have had very mild weight gain with it because my dose is so small.

I have gained a lot of weight on Zyprexa, have had tremendous hunger pangs. Was finally able to lose some of that weight when I added:
- Ozempic
- Topamax
- Provigil

I took Seroquel for 3 months in 50mg for sleep, didn't help but had no wieght gain.
now about Zyprexa, when i first started it i was already overweight, but it made me put on around 10lbs then i got stuck on my current wight, I noticed if I stay away from carbs and exercise i start to lose something like 2/3albs a week. but to be honest im too tired from my meds to workout regularly.

I'm worried about weight gain with Zyprexa too. I'm on 5 mg in the mornings and 10 mg at night. I'm trying not to snack, or if I do, to have it be a healthy snack, like a banana.

I've been on both. Zyprexa was worse for weight gain but better in the sedation department. You can try Lybalvi (Zyprexa+samidorphan) or add metformin to reduce the weight gain.

Be careful: banana is very high carb. If you eat it, add some protein, such as peanut butter, as this will prevent a spike in blood glucose. If you can afford it, try NutriSense CGM for several months to learn your individual responses to bananas and other foods and snacks. We are all different and then you can optimize knowing how YOUR sugar spikes, or does not, as opposed to how sugar in people in general, on average, spikes. I did NutriSense for a couple of months and learned a lot. I won't do it again but what I learned on it will be put to good use. Try your best to avoid sugar spikes, even if it does not lead to weight loss, because sugar spikes are dangerous per se.

For me as well, Zyprexa was far worse for weight gain but far better for sleep.

Lybalvi did not make a difference. Metformin did not make a difference, but I still am taking Metformin just in case.

I have put on 20 pounds from Zyprexa. (Which isn't a whole lot in the grand scheme of things). I mean the benefit really does outweigh the risk in my case. But it's different for different people of course.

Yeah, for Zyprexa, in the grand scheme of things, 20 lbs is not a lot. People gain on the scale of 100 lbs.

If the benefit really outweighs the risk and all you have gained is 20 lbs, it is the med for you. I hope you will be able to maintain the current weight.

If it is relevant at all, when I was on Zyprexa, I was able to lose some in the end (25 lbs, which was less than what I gained on it, but was still significant). I lost using Ozempic, Topomax, Provigil.
Thanks for this!

I'm experiencing more hunger on Olanzapine (Zyprexa) than I did when I was on Latuda. I'm not looking forward to going to my GP to find out I gained more weight.

I gained a lot of weight on Rexulti too.
