How do you get through withdrawals from antipsychotics (specifically 234mg of Invega Sustenna)?
My old pdoc wanted to kill me, like most other pdocs, and I bet my next one will too. __________________ Live life for nothing but that sweet sweet melody. |

@MuddyBoots I am sorry you are having or anticipating withdrawal from anti psychotic. That is something that should only be done under the direction of prescribing doctor.
Friends I know using anti psychotics and anti depressants have had to taper off of some of them. Talking to your doc and or pharmacist is highly recommended. @CANDC __________________ Super Moderator Community Support Team "Things Take Time" |

I can't taper. It's an injection and my pdoc wants me to get anaphylaxis and die.

In the past when I went off APs I just quit cold turkey and never really had an issue with it.. benzos were an issue though as I had seizures from quitting. ADs we’re and issue too as I got brain zaps. I like my current pdoc, he’s willing to work with me on quitting drugs. Doesn’t want me to, but he’s willing, so I’m very lucky with this one.

I always have severe issues quitting antipsychotics cold turkey. When I quit haldol cold turkey I had severe insomnia, went manic/psychotic, almost died, ended up in the hospital. Even now I have withdrawals just before my injection. Headache, vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, and that's just a couple days. I'm expecting rebound psychosis/mania as always happens when I quit APs.

Ooo that sounds awful can you get a different prescription for an AP to prevent that?

Depends if my next pdoc is a sociopath or not. I’m betting she is. Most pdocs are.

if taking invega gives you anaphylaxis then you are allergic to its ingredients and shouldn't have continued it, the good new is that there are tens if not hundreds of other anti psychotics out there, im sure if you tell your doctor that invega gives you anaphylaxis they will try something else.

It's not quite anaphylaxis yet, right now it's just a rash all over my body (including my neck) and swelling but each injection it just gets worse so unless I stop it (which is going to be hell) I am expecting it to get that bad. I told my pdoc and her advice was to just take Benadryl after the injection and that just delayed the rash and kept it on more like 1/5th of my body instead of a third. She did not seem at all concerned that I'm on a medication I'm allergic too.
I had the same exact reaction to Tegretol and now it's on my allergy list, so why won't this pdoc take me off of it? I'm tempted to go IP when it starts wearing off on week 3 so I get a doc who understands I can't take this shyt. __________________ Live life for nothing but that sweet sweet melody. |

Can you switch to another antipsychotic? Usually, at least in my experience, if you're taking one antipsychotic, the docs want you to switch to another one. Is there another one out there that has worked for you in the past?

I've stopped AP's cold turkey and didn't have too much problems except of course symptom relapse. But if you are going onto another AP then you might not have that.

I've never encountered an antipsychotic that I can tolerate AND works (they seem to be mutually exclusive), and I've taken most of the newer ones and a couple older ones. No epi-pen.
I already know what my withdrawal symptoms will be because I get them every month after the injection wears off/before the next injection: screaming headache, vomiting, insomnia, debilitating psychosis. __________________ Live life for nothing but that sweet sweet melody. |
