About 4 years ago I took latuda for about 4 months due to awful depression when my daughter ran away, and it worked. I dont recall why it was stopped. Is Latuda an atypical antipsychotic or an antidepressant? I ask because I was left on an AAP for YEARS for no reason and developed TD which I take ingrezza for now. In those latuda commercials I thought I heard something about uncontrolled muscle movement so Im confused. I would like to consider it again but thought I would see what others thought.

I don't know if it is marketed as an anti-psychotic but that is what I take it for. I'm on a mid-range dose. I also take Olanzapine (Zyprexa) for psychosis. It's hard to tell sometimes which one is working or not working. Latuda is at least weight neutral for me.

It is an AAP. I find it very effective. I am just unhappy that I think it is causing depressed libido. I also experience EPS on it but I take Gabapentin which ameliorates them almost to zero. Overall, I am very happy with Latuda.

Positives of Latuda: it doesn't cause QT interval prolongation like the other AAPs can (such as Geodon, for example) - or at least in studies it has been shown not to... (I don't know if that's an issue for you).
Also, it's weight-neutral. Also it helps with bipolar depression. What else... Hmm. It's been very effective in treating my psychosis. I take 40 mg of it. It's supposed to be more effective if you take it with food beforehand. It hasn't quite done the trick for my complicated depression, but along with the other meds it has helped quite a bit. Anyway, I have been quite pleased with it. Beforehand I was taking Zyprexa and that caused a whole slew of negative side effects for me. Latuda has caused far fewer side effects (if any at all that are bothersome). __________________ "Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it!” |
