I am so sad that I am going back on medication after years but my life is pure living hell. Terrified, impending doom, debilitated, severely depressed.

My pdoc prescribed Paxil and I am so worried and scared about all the short and long term side effects especially weight gain, increased anxiety, and health problems. 😔

I need this medication to work. My life depends on it.

How do I avoid the weight gain and the increased anxiety?

Sadly I have no experience with Paxil although I wonder whether it would help me since it is supposed to help with insomnia if I remember correctly. Hopefully other members here with experience with Paxil will see your post and respond to it with helpful tips about weight gain and increased anxiety.

I was on Paxil from about October 2009 to June 2014. I remember it worked really well for me. It helped with my Social Anxiety and anxiety in general. This was the first SSRI I was ever prescribed. Unfortunately, back then I was still anti-medication and took it reluctantly. I thought it was "evil". I did not realize that I need medication. Now I am on a different SSRI. I would say the Paxil helped me more than my current SSRI (Lexapro).

I am sorry to hear what you are going through. I hope you feel better soon.

Paxil is one of the most sedating of the SSRIs.....I have tried it in the past, and I do remember my doctor told me to take it at bedtime, because of it's tendency to cause sedation.

Paxil is used to treat anxiety and depression, and some other disorders....

As far as the weight gain goes, yes I did gain some weight, but not a huge amount.....The extra weight came off after I had tapered off it.

If you feel comfortable sharing, what is your dosage of Paxil?......Weight gain tends to happen more with higher doses.

The maximum recommended dose of Paxil is 50-60mg/day, if I remember correctly.

I was on it for 5 years and had no side effects (except sexual). It completely stopped my depression and anxiety, it was a miracle.

Sounds like Paxil worked well for your depression and anxiety, @cool09......Too bad it did cause sexual sides for you.

I took it for about 6 months or so, but I stopped it because it caused some weight gain for me..
